Abstract:
A payment device, comprising: a housing; and a controller disposed within the housing and configured to: receive at least one location signal, the at least one location signal being based, at least in part, on an antenna signal and representing a location of a payment transceiver or a range between the payment transceiver and an antenna; determine, according to the at least one location signal, whether the location of the payment transceiver is within a payment processing zone; determine whether the payment device is an approved payment device such that the payment device is approved to process payments from the payment transceiver; and process a payment from the payment transceiver only if, at least, the payment transceiver is within the payment processing zone and the payment device is an approved payment device.
Abstract:
To view media, a user may select a media stream by operating a portable device that controls a media presentation device. The portable device may be configured to multicast this stream selection to both the media presentation device and a selection analysis machine. The remote control may have or include both an infrared emitter and a cellular telephone, and the stream selection may be sent both to the media presentation device and to the selection analysis machine. The selection analysis machine may receive and store stream selections over a period of time, and these aggregated stream selections may form all or part of a profile of a user or a group of users who use the media presentation device. This profile may indicate viewing habits and choices of one or more users of the media presentation device, and the selection analysis machine may analyze this profile.
Abstract:
A system for signaling overhead information in a network includes a receiver configured to receive a radio frequency communication signal comprising at least one superframe, the at least one superframe comprising overhead information that identifies a location of a first data stream carried in the at least one superframe, and a trailer associated with the first data stream, the trailer including at least a portion of the overhead information that identifies the location of the first data stream in a subsequent superframe without the receiver processing the overhead information in the subsequent superframe.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are disclosed herein for an enhanced Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS) in a wireless communications network. In one embodiment, a number of base stations in a MBMS zone, or broadcast region, accommodate both Spatial Multiplexing (SM) enabled user elements and non-SM enabled user elements. In another embodiment, a number of base stations form a MBMS zone, or broadcast region, where the MBMS zone is sub¬ divided into an SM zone and a non-SM zone. In another embodiment, the wireless communications network includes multiple MBMS zones. For each MBMS zone, base stations serving the MBMS zone transmit an MBMS zone identifier (ID) for the MBMS zone. The MBMS zone ID may be used by a user element for decoding and/or to determine when to perform a handoff from one MBMS zone to another.
Abstract:
Provided are apparatuses and methods for transmitting radiotext plus data (e.g., RT+ data) to a mobile terminal. In one example, radiotext plus data is received and transmitted to the mobile terminal in a Digital Video Broadcast - Handheld (DVB-H) data stream. Program or service data corresponding to a program may be encoded on IP and transmitted in audio/video data in a DVB-H data stream and RT+ data corresponding to the program may b transmitted on Internet Protocol (IP). For example, the RT+ data may be converted to Real- Time Transport Protocol (RTP) on a RTP timed text protocol. In another example, a content stream may be received and divided into a program data stream and a corresponding RT+ data stream. The RT+ data stream may be converted to RTP and synchronized with the program data on audio/video data in a DVB-H data stream. The RT+ data may be delivered to a mobile terminal.
Abstract:
A real-time music information retrieval system and methods for providing desired music information via text message to radio or television stations listeners through wireless communication devices. Listeners could retrieve information for the song that is currently being played at the radio and television station, or the songs that have previously been played. A system and method is provided to automatically send an alert message the radio and television station listeners of upcoming music broadcasting events.
Abstract:
A system and method for utilizing user profiles in an interactive television system. An interactive television system includes a broadcast station, a set-top box, and a remote mobile or fixed unit. The system is configured to create and/or update a user profile in response to an access made in a first access mode. In response to detecting a user access in a second access mode, the system accesses the user profile, selects data based at least in part on the user profile, and transmits the data to the user.
Abstract:
A method and a device used for displaying wideband information to a user has a return channel made through a cellular mobile terminal (CMT) providing interactivity. The device (10) has a first antenna (12) and a second antenna (20), a receiver (14, 16) that is coupled to the first antenna and a transmitter (24) that is coupled to the second antenna. The method includes receiving information in a bit-wise manner with the receiver in a first band of RF frequencies; generating a notification of an occurrence of a burst transmission from the transmitter; and in response to the notification, terminating the reception of the information for a portion of one bit time corresponding to a duration of the burst transmission. The method may include an optional step, further in response to the notification, of reducing power consumption by turning off at least a portion of the receiver for a period of time corresponding to the duration of the burst transmission. In one embodiment the first band of radio frequencies is a DVB-T 470-862MHz reception band, and the second band of radio frequencies is a GSM 880-915MHz transmission band. In another embodiment the first band of radio frequencies is a DTV 794-806MHz reception band, and the second band of radio frequencies is a CMT 824-849MHz transmission band.
Abstract:
In order to provide access to broadcast audio and/or video programmes, a recording/reproducing apparatus (7) records selected broadcast channels with reference to the broadcast time. A communications processor (5) communicates with terminals (3) associated with a telephone network (4). A user of a terminal (3) sends a request for that user to receive a selected broadcast channel starting from a desired time in the programme. The recording/reproducing apparatus (7) reproduces that broadcast channel starting from the requested time, and forwards the programme to the user's terminal (3) via the communications processor (5). A bookmark server (8) may generate bookmarks allowing interrupted transmissions of programmes to be resumed.
