摘要: A thermally flowable sealant (10) for sealing floor pan cavities (73) of motor vehicles is provided. The sealant (10) is vacuum-formed from a thermoplastic material utilizing a mold configured to provide a sealant (10) whose overall size and shape corresponds to that of the cavity (73) to be sealed. The formed sealant (10) is flexible and has a high tensile strength and a viscosity of at least about 2 x 10 cP when heated to a temperature of about 325 DEG F. In use, the sealant (10) is disposed within the subject cavity (73) where it is maintained by gravity during the various stages of the manufacturing process. When the sealant (10) is exposed to heat (e.g., such as during the powder bake stage of the automobile manufacturing process), it begins to flow under the force of gravity and in some embodiments moderately expand into the various crevices of the floor pan (71) structure forming the cavity (73) so as to seal the cavity (73).

摘要: The invention relates to a method for linking two plastic components. According to the inventive method, the first component (2) is provided in at least one connecting section at which the link with the second component (6) is to be established with a heating element (18) that can be heated by induction. The second component (6) is fastened to the first component (2) in such a manner that both components (2, 6) contact the heating element (18). An induction welding step is performed in which the heating element (18) is heated to such a temperature that both components (2, 6) melt and fuse in the zone surrounding the heating element (18). The aim of the invention is to provide a method for establishing a firm connection between components (2, 6) that consist of plastic materials of very different viscosity. To this end, the connecting section (12) is configured in the form of a feather-and-tongue plug-in connection. The plug-in connection is provided with sealing means which render the space in the tongue (15) impermeable vis-à-vis the molten material. The heating element (18) is accommodated in said space. A force acts upon the components (2, 6) that prevents them from being displaced contrary to the plug-in direction.

摘要: The invention relates to a method for applying a protective film (5) to a shaped surface (15, 16, 17, 18) of a vehicle (1) in the lengthwise or in the widthwise direction. A film sheet (5) is unwound from a stock roll (4) and placed in contact with the shaped surfaces of the vehicle. The method is characterised in that: the film sheet (5) is brought under tension alongside or above the shape surface to be covered; a hollow mould (13, 14, 15) having the shape of the shaped surface is brought close to the film sheet, which mould is provided with a resilient, porous inner surface (13', 14', 15', 19, 20, 21), as well as with pressure means (22, 23, 24, 25, 26) for applying a vacuum and/or overpressure to the inner surface; a vacuum is applied to the inner surface (13', 14', 15', 19, 20, 21) of the mould and the film sheet is drawn into contact with the inner surface of the mould by suction; the film sheet is cut through by cutting means (34, 35, 36) around the periphery of the mould, and the mould is pushed against the shaped surface so that the film is attached to the shaped surface such that it adheres. Fast, efficient application of the film on the shaped surfaces, without air inclusions, is obtained by the use of the shaped moulds and a constant tension on the film sheet during the application thereof.

摘要: A trailer (2) or caravan for coupling to a towing vehicle is normally composed of a series of different materials which react differently to temperature variations and moisture. Also, their corrosive characterisitics are very different and herewith also their lifetime and thus the lifetime of the trailer. The production of the known trailers with said diverse materials requires considerable working operations, and involves up to several different trade groups in connection with the assembly. With the object of achieving longer lifetime, less weight and herewith greater loading capacity, and also lower production costs, a trailer (2) of the kind disclosed is characterised in that the superstructure (6), the chassis (4) and towing-bar/triangle (8) consist of one and the same self-supporting construction of composite materials comprising external shells between which a core of suitable core material is placed. A method and a mould are also disclosed for the forming of items (16) of PVC-based cellular plastic.

摘要: A method of making boat hulls, vehicle bodies, containers and similar shell structures by fastening panels on both sides of a tube lattice, and a tube lattice adapted for making such structures. A first component for the forming of an expansion material, in an amount apportioned to the volumes of the cavities defined between the tubes and the panels, is placed in the cavities prior to closing the cavities, and an activating component is injected into the cavities after the closing thereof in order to cause expansion, by use of at least some of the tubes as distribution channels for said activating component. The tube lattice used for making the structures comprises apertures (8) in at least one of the tubes (5) defining each cavity, in the wall facing said cavity, said aperture or apertures being adapted for the injection of said activating component. Thus, the quantity of expansion material (7) in each cavity can be apportioned to the volume thereof. Some of the tubes (5) may comprise ribs (9) or grooves adapted to engage the edges of panel elements (1, 2, 3, 4).
