摘要: An interpositional arthroplasty system for use in repairing ginglymus joints such as the joints of the ankle, including a tibiotalar implant that provides a first major surface adapted to be positioned against a tibia and a second major surface adapted to be positioned against a talus and a polymeric ankle implant that provides a first major surface adapted to be positioned against a talus and a second major surface adapted to be positioned against a calcaneus. Such an implant can be useful for correcting various deformities of an ankle, as well as increasing articulation of a joint. Also described are biomaterials, including polymeric biomaterials having use in preparing such implants, as well as surgical kits that include implants and other tools adapted for their use.

摘要: A method and related materials and apparatus for using minimally invasive means to repair (e.g., reconstruct) tissue such as fibrocartilage, and particularly fibrocartilage associated with diarthroidal and amphiarthroidal joints. The method involves the use of minimally invasive means to access and prepare damaged or diseased fribrocartilage within the body, and to then deliver a curable biomaterial, such as a curable polyurethane system, to the prepared site, and to cure the biomaterial in situ in order to repair the fibrocartilage. Applications include repair (e.g., reconstruction or replacement) of the intervertebral disc of the spine. An apparatus is provided in the form of an uninflated balloon that can be inserted into the disc space and there inflated with biomaterial in order to distract the space and provide a permanent replacement disc.

摘要: A method and apparatus for the creation or modification of the wear surfaces of orthopedic joints. An implant (124) comprising one or more biomaterials defining a first major surface (132) adapted to be positioned as an articulating surface against a medial condyle of a femur, and a second major surface (134) adapted to mate with a tibial plateau of a tibia. The surfaces can have the same or different physical-mechanical properties, as by the use of a composite of two or more biomaterials having the same or different properties. Implants can include hip implants. The biomaterial may be in particulate form for use as a bulking agent, and comprise one more drugs.

摘要: A method and system for the creation or modification of the wear surface of orthopedic joints, involving the preparation and use of one or more partially or fully preformed components adapted for insertion and placement into the body and at the joint site. The system includes a method and related components and/or devices in the form of a kit that can be used to provide or perform some or all of the steps of: a) preparing a joint to receive an implant, b) determining an appropriate implant size for a particular joint, c) determining an appropriate implant thickness, d) inserting the implant into the joint, and/or e) securing the implant within the joint to a desired extent. One or more of the various components and devices, including optionally one or more implants themselves, can be provided or packaged separately or in varying desired combinations and subcombinations to provide a kit of this invention. In turn, a kit can include, or be used in combination with, one or more corresponding devices or components that will already exist in the surgical suite, and that can optionally be sterilized for re-use in subsequent procedures. The selection and use of components, devices and/or implants within a kit of this invention is facilitated by the coordination of various features in the manner described, including appearance, size and configuration.
