Abstract:
A method of operating a refrigeration system uses a plurality of compressors in connected parallel. The method includes returning refrigerant and oil to the compressors, the refrigerant also having oil entrained therein, separating the oil entrained in the refrigerant, and returning more of the oil entrained in the refrigerant to a lead compressor of the plurality of compressors regardless of whether the lead compressor is operating. The method also includes connecting the oil sumps of all of the plurality of compressors such that oil is supplied from the lead compressor to at least one non-lead compressor of the plurality of compressors when the at least one non-lead compressor is operating.
Abstract:
A compressor that includes a housing with a plurality of attached shell sections which define an internal volume of the compressor. In the housing, compressor bodies have respective surfaces which mutually engage. The compressor includes a drive unit disposed in the housing. The drive unit has a motor to provide a mechanical output on a drive shaft. The drive shaft drives one of the compressor bodies to facilitate relative movement for the compression of fluid. In an embodiment, the plurality of shell sections includes a base plate having an annular rib, which locates a tubular central shell section of the plurality of attached shell sections.
Abstract:
An insulating sleeve for a compressor discharge pipe is provided. The insulating sleeve includes a first half-sleeve having a first curved body portion and a first extended portion. The first curved body portion is configured to fit at least partially around a portion of the compressor discharge pipe. A second half-sleeve has a second curved body portion configured to attach to the first curved body portion such that the first and second curved body portions completely encircle the portion of the compressor discharge pipe. The second half-sleeve includes a second extended portion configured to attach to the first extended portion. Each of the first and second extended portions include respective first and second cavities which, together, encase a temperature sensor in contact with, or in spaced relation to, the compressor discharge pipe.
Abstract:
A discharge check valve assembly for a compressor having a discharge opening. The discharge check valve assembly includes a valve body adapted to be positioned at the discharge opening of the compressor. A discharge tube is assembled to the valve body, and a check valve member is disposed in the valve body. In certain embodiments, the check valve member is biased in a closed position by a biasing spring. A weld block member is positioned at an interface between the valve body and the discharge tube, and a first weld couples the discharge tube and the valve body at a first weld point.
Abstract:
A scroll compressor that includes a housing and scroll compressor bodies disposed in the housing. A motor is disposed within the housing and operably connected to a drive shaft for driving one of the scroll compressor bodies. The drive shaft is rotationally supported at one end by a crankcase which includes a bearing housing and a bearing. The crankcase includes a plurality of openings or gas passages passing through the crankcase, as well as a plurality of generally cylindrical sections positioned respectively between adjacent openings. The cylindrical sections define contact regions which can engage an inner periphery of the housing when the crankcase is mounted therein.
Abstract:
A scroll compressor that includes a shell and scroll compressor bodies disposed in the shell. The scroll bodies include a first scroll body and a second scroll body, where the first and second scroll bodies have respective bases and respective scroll ribs that project from the respective bases. The scroll ribs are configured to mutually engage, and the second scroll body is movable relative to the first scroll body for compressing fluid. A pilot ring engages a perimeter surface of the first scroll body to limit movement of the first scroll body in the radial direction. Further, the shell includes different inner diameters to facilitate press fitting a motor into the shell where the motor includes lubricant flow passages.
