A device and method of a medical implant for monitoring progression of heart failure in a human heart. An activity sensor provides information related to the activity level of a patient and an oxygen sensor provides information related to the level of oxygen content in venous blood. A determined level of venous oxygen content at a determined activity level is obtained, and that level of venous oxygen content is compared to stored values at a corresponding activity level. The result of the comparison is used as a basis for determining a degree of heart failure.
Abstract:
Implantable lead for sensing mechanical activity of a human heart. The lead comprises an insulating polymeric tube extending from a proximal end to a distal end of the lead, an electric conductor provided in the lumen of the polymeric tube, and a sensor connected to the conductor at a distal end thereof. The polymeric tube is provided with a conductive surface layer along the interface between the polymeric tube and the electric conductor. Thereby, accumulation of electrical charges between the electric conductor and the polymeric tube is prevented.

The invention refers to a method for producing a biocompatible material of the formula Na x K y NbO 3 , 0≤x≤0.8, 0.2≤y≤1, x+y=1, comprising the steps of: (i) providing a Na-precursor and a K-precursor for Na x K y NbO 3 ; (ii) mixing the precursors in solution, whereby they first react to form a sol and thereafter a gel; and heat treating the gel to obtain an oxide of the material Na x K y NbO 3 , 0≤x≤0.8, 0.2≤y≤1, x+y=1. Hereby, a biocompatible material having several advantages, such as a highly controlled composition, is produced. Further, the invention refers to a method for producing a film comprising the material, as well as a material and a film produced by the method of the invention. Moreover, the invention refers to an implant comprising the biocompatible film of the invention.

A temperature sensitive element is arranged in an implantable lead and is sensitive to the temperature of blood and the like in contact with the surface of the temperature sensitive element. The cardiac stimulator receives a temperature signal indicative of the temperatures to which the element is subjected. A status signal is provided which is indicative of the status of the implantable lead on the basis of the determined temperature signals .
