Abstract: An automated manual transmission system (1) including an input shaft (4), a clutch, an output shaft (6), and a gearbox enabling selection of different transmission ratios between the input shaft and the output shaft (6). An actuation mechanism (10) is operatively connected to the clutch and the gearbox to effect disengagement and re- engagement of the clutch and coordinated selection of the transmission ratios. A hybrid motor (14) is operably connected to the output shaft (6) and a control system (16) is operable to regulate the actuating mechanism in response to control inputs, to effect automatic gear changes. The hybrid motor (14) is responsive to the control system (16) to provide supplementary torque to the vehicle driveline when the clutch is disengaged, to reduce torque interruption in the driveline.

Abstract: A drive system (10) including an internal combustion engine (12), a planetary gear-set (16), an electric motor (18) and a transmission (20), wherein the internal combustion engine (12) and the electric motor (18) each drive the transmission (20) via the planetary gear set (16), and the electric motor (18) drives a fluid pump (22) of the transmission (20). In a further embodiment there is disclosed a fluid pump for pumping fluid from a source to a destination, wherein first and second inlet conduits are provided between the source and the pump, first and second outlet conduits are provided between the pump and the destination, and each of the conduits is provided with a valve allowing fluid flow through the conduit in only one direction, such that when the fluid pump is rotated in a first direction fluid is pumped through the first inlet and outlet conduits, and when the fluid pump is rotated in a second opposite direction fluid is pumped though the second inlet and outlet conduits.

Abstract: A fluid flow control apparatus including a fluid supply line (16) having a flow constrictor (38), the apparatus being adapted for receiving fluid at pressure from a pump (42) driven by an engine, a section downstream of the constrictor (38, 40) being adapted for fluid communication with a clutch device (12), wherein the flow constrictor (38, 40) reduces pressure of fluid from the pump (42) so that when the engine is at idle, fluid downstream of the constrictor (38, 40) is at a pressure below an activation pressure required to engage the clutch device (12), and wherein the pressure of fluid downstream of the constrictor (38,40) is able to be raised to the activation pressure by increasing engine speed. In an other embodiment a valve system for controlling engagement of a hydraulically actuated clutch device is disclosed, the valve system including a valve and a supply line, wherein the valve is movable between a normal condition and a power-loss condition in which the engagement of the clutch device is controlled independently of an electrically powered control and wherein the valve is moved to power-less condition in response to loss of electrical power.
