Abstract:
A movable cable loop descent system comprises a cable for forming into a loop, a receiver for attachment to a structure having a receiver pulley for engaging the cable loop, a brake assembly, having a drive pulley for being rotated by the cable loop, the brake assembly for slowing a rate of travel of the cable loop and a carriage supporting a load for attachment to the cable loop at a point and for movement between the structure and the ground. A rotor and substantially parallel conductive frame is mounted on an axle passing through the drive pulley. Magnets on a surface of the rotor and/or the frame induce eddy currents, as they are relatively rotated, which create a rotational braking force controlling descent of the carriage and load. The brake assembly may be removably positioned by a drive-on anchor. The cable is removable and the system may form a kit.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to novel compositions and methods and their use in treating an autoimmune disorder or achieving tolerance to an antigen. More specifically, the present invention is directed to human immunoglobulin constructs for loading a delivered T cell epitope on to the surface of an antigen presenting cell for achieving tolerance to that delivered T cell epitope. The present invention may be applied to any T cell epitope mediated autoimmune disorder.
Abstract:
Abstract The present invention is directed to novel compositions that cause effective redirection of class I-immunity to Te 1 effectors, that take advantage of the unexpected loading of MHC I by peptide within IgG backbone combined with appropriate instruction of antigen presenting cells. Such compositions are able to transform a seemingly ineffective therapeutics into a highly effective one, associated with generation of class I-restricted cytolytic cells and IFN-y, IL-2 producing T cells, further associated with protection against a highly virulent microbe or recovery from malignant tumoral process.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method of purifying silicon using a cascading dissolution and washing process. The dissolution and washing processes can contain single or multiple stages. Water and dissolving chemicals are recycled through the process towards the beginning of the process.
Abstract:
The present invention provides, a user interface for conducting chats over a network is provided. The user interface includes a list tab for revealing a list of receiving chat partners and a status of each of the receiving chat partners, a status tab for selecting a status of a sending chat partner, and a chat tab for revealing information pertaining to a set of active chats between the sending chat partner and the receiving chat partners. In addition, indicators could be provided on the tabs to provide various functionality/information.
Abstract:
A method for inhibiting the biological effect of bacterial endotoxin on mammalian cells in a system containing such endotoxin, comprising the step of administering to the cells an effective endotoxin-inhibiting amount of a fluorocarbon emulsion. Although the method may be used to treat cells in vitro, the invention is preferably used to treat whole organisms. In a preferred aspect of the invention, the emulsion is administered to a mammal having a bacterial infection in a dosage effective to prevent or reduce endotoxic or septic shock in the mammal.
Abstract:
Risk management systems and methods for plant EPCCOM are described. The system comprises a risk management database for storing risk objects, each object representing a real-world risk mitigation factor. A risk recommendation engine is communicatively coupled to the risk management database and is configured to provide recommendations for mitigating and managing risks as a function of efficacy attributes of the risk objects. The efficacy attributes represent the effectiveness of previously implemented and/or simulated risk mitigation strategies. The efficacy attributes are preferably multi-variable dependent and are defined by prioritizing and weighing different objectives.
Abstract:
The present application is directed to the use of dsRNA and/or ssRNA for the purpose of inducing apoptosis or cell death in proliferating cells. Specifically, low molecular weight and high molecular weight dsRNA and ssRNA are shown to induce apoptosis and/or cell death in proliferating cells, to arrest proliferation of transformed cells or tumor cells and to cause rapid induction of the cytokine TNF-alpha and/or also induce production of IL-12 which directs a Th-1 response.
