Abstract:
A wind direction indicator comprises a base (1/1') on which is mounted a rotatable disc (2/2') with an anticlockwise scale (SC). Indicia in the form of sectors (S1 to S5) and sail plan diagrams (6, 6') indicate the points of sail for a given bearing. The device is used by rotating the disc so as to set the scale to indicate the wind direction and then simply reading off the bearing of the boat on the scale to find the wind direction experienced by the boat. Indicia such as sail plan diagrams (6, 6') show the points of sail needed for various wind directions. The wind direction indicator may be implemented electronically in a mobile device.
Abstract:
A method of stiffening a rib (19, 20) during the assembly of an aircraft wing is described. A stiffener panel (40, 41) is attached to a face of the rib (19, 20). The rib is aligned with one or more wing components with the stiffener panel (40, 41) attached. An assembly operation such as drilling (16) is performed with the rib aligned and the stiffener panel attached. The stiffener panel (40, 41) is removed from the rib after the assembly operation. The stiffener panel has a resilient external sealing ring which is mounted on a face of the panel and forms an external perimeter of a vacuum cavity; and at least one resilient internal sealing ring which is mounted on the panel (20, 21) within the perimeter defined by the external sealing ring and forms an internal perimeter of the vacuum cavity. The stiffener can be attached to the rib by a vacuum clamping force, the vacuum being sealed by the external and internal sealing rings. The internal sealing ring(s) seal any holes which are present in the rib. The stiffener (40, 41) can support the rib (20, 21) during alignment to give it the required flatness.

Abstract:
An aircraft wiring installation connecting a set of fuel side wires in an aircraft fuel tank to a set of airside wires outside the fuel tank, the installation comprising: a connector box having a fuel side wall (22) and an airside wall (21); one or more connectors (40, 43) carried by the fuel side wall (22) which connect the fuel side wires to the airside wires; a fairing (6) partially covering the airside wall (21); and one or more holes (30) in the airside wall through which the airside wires pass from the connector box into the fairing (6).
Abstract:
A method of producing CVD diamond having a high colour, which is suitable for optical applications, for example. The method includes adding a gaseous source comprising a second impurity atom type to counter the detrimental effect on colour caused by the presence in the CVD synthesis atmosphere of a first impurity atom type. The described method applies to the production of both single crystal diamond and polycrystalline diamond.
Abstract:
The present invention comprises systems, methods and devices for the delivery of compositions for occluding or of means for opening conduits. The implantable occlusive material may be delivered pre-formed or in situ cured and, may be a resorbable material that supports tissue ingrowth that eventually replaces the material leaving little or no original material in place. The delivery system is positioned to allow for placement of the occlusive material into the body conduit. Use of delivery systems, methods and devices for re-opening an occluded body conduit are also included.
Abstract:
The present invention provides methods and compositions for screening, diagnosis and prognosis of Alzheimer's disease, for monitoring the effectiveness of Alzheimer's disease treatment, and for drug development. Alzheimer's Disease-Associated features (AFs), detectable by two-dimensional electrophoresis of cerebrospinal fluid, serum or plasma are described. The invention further provides Alzheimer's Disease-Associated Protein Isoforms (APIs) detectable in cerebrospinal fluid, serum or plasma, preparations comprising isolated APIs antibodies immunospecific for APIs, pharmaceutical compositions, diagnostic and therapeutic methods, and kits comprising or based on the same.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to polypeptides to be administered especially to humans and in particular for therapeutic use. The polypeptides are modified polypeptides whereby the modification results in a reduced propensity for the polypeptide to elicit an immune response upon administration to the human subject. The invention in particular relates to the modification of granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) to result in granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) proteins that are substantially non-immunogenic or less immunogenic than any non-modified counterpart when used in vivo .
Abstract:
The invention relates to artificial modified proteins, preferably fusion proteins, having a reduced immunogenicity compared to the parent non-modified molecule when exposed to a species in vivo . The invention relates, above all, to novel immunoglobulin fusion proteins which essentially consist of an immunoglobulin molecule or a fragment thereof covalently fused via its C-terminus to the N-terminus of a biologically active non-immunoglobulin molecule, preferably a polypeptide or protein or a biologically active fragment thereof. In a specific embodiment, the invention relates to fusion proteins consisting of an Fc portion of an antibody which is fused as mentioned to the non-immunological target molecule which elicits biological or pharmacological efficacy. The molecules of the invention have amino acid sequences which are altered in one or more amino acid residue positions but have in principal the same biological activity as compared with the non-altered molecules. The changes are made in regions of the molecules which are identified as T-cell epitopes, which contribute to an immune reaction in a living host. Thus, the invention also relates to a novel method of making such fusion proteins by identifying said epitopes comprising calculation of T-cell epitope values for MHC Class II molecule binding sites in a peptide by computer-aided methods.
