Abstract:
A splitter divides a flow of low heating value biomass into a central stream and an annular stream. A stable flame may be achieved by combusting the central stream with oxygen. This avoids the use of costly fossil fuels or biomass (that have higher heating values than the biomass fuel) as an auxiliary fuel for achieving a stable flame.
Abstract:
Disclosed are methods and apparatus for depositing uniform layers on a substrate (201) for piezoelectric applications. An ultra-thin seed layer (308) having a uniform thickness from center to edge thereof is deposited on a substrate (201). A template layer (310) closely matching the crystal structure of a subsequently formed piezoelectric material layer (312) is deposited on a substrate (201). The uniform thickness and orientation of the seed layer (308) and the template layer (310), in turn, facilitate the growth of piezoelectric materials with improved crystallinity and piezoelectric properties.
Abstract:
Solid particulate fuels are combusted with a primary oxidant stream of industrially pure oxygen and a secondary oxidant stream of industrially pure oxygen optionally mixed with a portion of recycled flue gas. The fuel is conveyed with a carrier gas of air or recycled flue gas. An oxygen concentration out of the total amount of the fuel stream and the primary and secondary oxidant streams is 40-63% by mass or 47-70% by volume.

Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for processing a metal using a hybrid burner are described herein. The costs of melting and refining metal, such as iron, using standard burners is subject to fluctuation. The hybrid burners described herein are capable of burning both standard fuels as well as solid carbon-containing fuels, like coal. Through the use of a hybrid burner in either standard or modified electric arc furnaces, the costs for melting and refining an iron source can be reduced both through the costs of fluid hydrocarbon fuel sources and through the reduced or eliminated need for external carbon sources during refining.
Abstract:
Improved combustion of biomass is achieved by injected first (8) and second (6) streams of biomass from a burner where the first stream (6) of biomass has a median particle size larger than the biomass of the second stream (6) and oxygen is injected with the first stream (8) to provide an oxygen-enriched environment around the larger median sized particles. The oxygen-enriched environment is achieved either by injecting the oxygen directly into the first stream (8) or by premixing the oxygen with the conveying air of the first stream (8).
Abstract:
A process for producing a flat flame in an industrial melting furnace using solid fuel is provided. The flat flame is produced by a burner combusting particulate fuel by injecting a plurality of fuel streams (4) lying in a plane above a plurality of high speed primary oxidant steams (6) lying in a different plane and under a plurality of secondary oxidant streams (8) lying in another different plane. The velocity of the fuel streams (4) is decreased just upstream of the burner block front face in order to slow down the fuel streams (4) to allow a sufficiently long residence time in the furnace for satisfactory burnout and avoid accumulation of fuel particles inside the fuel nozzle.
Abstract:
A piezoelectric device comprises: a substrate (12) and a lead magnesium niobate-lead titanate (PMNPT) piezoelectric film on the substrate (12). The PMNPT film comprises: a thermal oxide layer (20) on the substrate (12); a first electrode above on the thermal oxide layer (20); a seed layer (26) above the first electrode; a lead magnesium niobate-lead titanate (PMNPT) piezoelectric layer (16) on the seed layer (26), and a second electrode on the PMNPT piezoelectric layer (16). The PMNPT film comprises a piezoelectric coefficient (d33) of greater than or equal to 200 pm/V.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for processing a substrate using improved shield configurations are provided herein. For example, a process kit for use in a physical vapor deposition chamber includes a shield comprising an inner wall with an innermost diameter configured to surround a target when disposed in the physical vapor deposition chamber, wherein a ratio of a surface area of the shield to a planar area of the inner diameter is about 3 to about 10.
