Abstract:
A concrete-forming composition for producing a concrete article including: (a) at least one internal curing agent including a water-insoluble crosslinked cellulose ether wherein the water-insoluble crosslinked cellulose ether has a higher water adsorption capacity compared to typically used superabsorbent polymers and wherein the water- insoluble crosslinked cellulose ether can be successfully and efficiently used as a water- insoluble crosslinked cellulose either internal curing agent in concrete-forming compositions; and (b) a cementitious material; a process for making the above concrete- forming composition; and a concrete article made from the above concrete-forming composition with the objective of reducing autogenous shrinkage and crack formation in the resulting concrete article made from the above concrete-forming composition.
Abstract:
An aqueous personal care rinse off composition is provided, comprising: a dermatologically acceptable aqueous vehicle; a dermatologically acceptable cleaning surfactant; and a suds enhancing structurant; wherein the suds enhancing structurant comprises a crosslinked cellulose ether containing 0.1 to 1.0 wt%, based on weight of the crosslinked cellulose ether, of polyether groups.
Abstract:
The present invention provides cementitious tile adhesives comprising ordinary Portland cement, sand or another inorganic filler, and from 0.12 to 0.6 wt.% of total solids of one or more polyether group containing crosslinked cellulose ethers. The present invention also provides methods of making the polyether group containing crosslinked cellulose ethers comprising crosslinking a cellulose ether at 90 °C or less, in an inert atmosphere, e.g. nitrogen, in the presence of a polyether group containing crosslinking agent and in the presence of alkali; the process may comprise part of a stepwise addition process of making of a cellulose ether itself in which the crosslinking of the cellulose ethers precedes at least one addition of alkyl halide or alkylene oxide to form, respectively, alkyl or hydroxyalkyl groups on the cellulose.
Abstract:
Prepare lithium carboxymethyl cellulose by treating sodium carboxymethyl cellulose with a weak acid to form an acid from of carboxymethyl cellulose and then treating the acid form of the carboxymethyl cellulose with lithium chloride.
Abstract:
The present invention provides dry mix compositions for cement-based tile adhesives having both improved open time and slip resistance comprising one or more gel-like crosslinked cellulose ethers containing polyether groups, preferably, a mixed cellulose ether having polyoxypropylene dioxyethylene ether crosslinks. The gel-like water-soluble crosslinked cellulose ethers containing polyether groups of the present invention are formed from low to medium viscosity cellulose ethers and contain polyether groups having from 2 to 15, or, preferably, 13 or fewer oxyalkylene groups, or, preferably, 7 or more oxyalkylene groups. The present invention also provides methods of using the dry mixes in cement-based tile adhesives.
Abstract:
Provided is a method of making an ethylcellulose oleogel comprising cooling a mixture of ethylcellulose polymer and oil from 100°C to 35°C at a rate of 0.6°C/min or slower.

Abstract:
A process for treating a polysaccharide with a dialdehyde in the presence of from 10 to 40 weight percent of water, based on the total weight of polysaccharide and water, is beneficially conducted in a mixing device characterized by a FROUDE number FR w of larger than 11, wherein ω w is the angular frequency in sec-1 and is defined as 2*π*RPM/60, RPM is the rotational speed of the mixing device in revolutions per minute, R w is the radius of the mixing device in m, and g is the acceleration due to gravity in m/s 2 .
Abstract:
Provided is an oil composition comprising, by weight based on the weight of the composition, (a) 2 - 12% of one or more ethylcellulose polymers; (b) 2 - 12% of an additive selected from the group consisting of one or more fatty acids, one or more monoglycerides of fatty acids, one or more diglycerides of fatty acids, and mixtures thereof; (c) 2 - 12% of one or more starch; and (d) 64 - 94% of one or more oils. Also provided is a margarine-type composition and a puff pastry composition, both comprising ethylcellulose polymer, an additive (b), and starch.
Abstract:
The present invention provides dry mix compositions for use in making gypsum plasters or mortars comprising gypsum, preferably, phosphorous gypsum one or more retarder, and one or more crosslinked cellulose ethers containing polyether groups. The compositions enable the provision of gypsum dry mixes, such as those from phosphorus gypsum, that make gypsum mortars with less stickiness while reducing the amount of cellulose ether in the dry mix.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an aqueous cementing slurry composition and a method of use thereof for cementing a pipe or casing in a borehole of a well using an aqueous cementing slurry composition comprising (a) a hydraulic cement, (b) a methylhydroxyethyl cellulose (HEMC) having an ethylene oxide molar substitution (EO MS) of from 0.16 to 0.22 and a methyl degree of substitution (M DS) of from 1.35 to 1.45, (c) water, and optionally (d) one or more other additives conventionally added to aqueous cementing compositions useful in cementing casings in the borehole of wells. Preferably, the aqueous cementing slurry composition is pumped downwardly into said casing, pumped upwardly into the annulus surrounding said casing until said aqueous composition fills that portion of the annular space desired to be sealed, and then maintaining said aqueous cementing composition in place until the cement sets.
