    Abstract: A method for designing a computational device or circuit having one or more desired characteristics, preferably input and/or output characteristics. The method involves using an inner, iterative search that is preferably used within one or more genetic operators. As a first step, one of a population of computational circuits or devices is selected. Once this is done a point in the selected circuit or device is chosen and characterised in terms of the circuit inputs and/or outputs. A parameter or characteristic associated with the selected point is then modified and the point is re-characterised. This is repeated to provide characterisations for a plurality of modified versions of the circuit. Then, the circuit that has characteristics closest to the desired characteristics is identified and added to the population of circuits, and the inner search loop is repeated for another one of the population. At the same time, an outer search, preferably within an evolutionary algorithm, is used to iteratively search the population to determine the circuits or devices having characteristics that are closest to the desired characteristics.

    Abstract: A cooking vessel cover device includes a body with a perimeter, upper surface, and lower surface. The body is made from a flexible material allowing the body may flex and move between closed and open positions. The perimeter of the body bounded contacts the upper terminus of a cooking vessel when the device is in a closed position so that the perimeter and the body may be in a generally flat planar orientation. An aperture is configured to receive portions of a food preparation apparatus and which is disposed within the body, passes through the upper surface and lower surface, thereby allowing the food preparation apparatus to operate with the cooking vessel cover in the closed and open position. A positioning fastener is coupled to the body which is configured to be removably coupled to one or more objects thereby securing the device in an open position.

    Abstract: A polyaxial locking screw system includes a bone plate defining a plate hole with an inner spherical surface and a relatively harder split polyaxial bushing with a outer spherical surface provided within the plate hole for receiving a bone screw. In one embodiment, the plate is formed from titanium alloy, while the bushing is formed from a cobalt chrome alloy. The outer surface of the polyaxial bushing includes a plurality of spikes. When the screw is inserted into the bushing, since the bushing material is considerably harder than the plate material, the forceful expansion of the bushing during screw insertion causes the spikes to penetrate into the inner spherical surface of the hole, thereby increasing the frictional engagement of the bushing to the plate to lock the screw at a desired angle.
