Abstract:
A device for testing in vitro tissue comprises a base section and a structure protruding from the base section. The shape and/or cross section of the structure varies with the height of the structure relative to the base section as measured from a height direction, perpendicular to the base section.
Abstract:
A device for testing in vitro muscle tissue in a microwell plate comprises a base section and two pillars, each protruding from the base section. The device also comprises a wall section with an inner wall surface surrounding the pillars and an outer wall surface, wherein the wall section comprises at least two rib elements extending outwardly from the outer wall surface to an outer periphery of the device.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a consumable recognition system for recognizing placement and/or type of consumable containing a food substance for the preparation of a beverage by use of a beverage dispenser. To enable the recognition of placement and/or type of consumable in a simple, foolproof and easily implementable way the system comprises a plurality of magnetic and/or electric field elements (31, 32, 33, 301) for separately sensing a magnetic and/or electric field, wherein said consumable comprises one or more magnetically and/or electrically conductive elements (42, 51, 61, 71, 81, 82, 91, 92) and the sensed magnetic fields depend on at least one characteristic of the one or more magnetically and/or electrically conductive elements, a driver (34) for providing drive currents to said magnetic and/or electric field elements, and a signal processor (35) for recognizing placement and/or type of consumable based on the sensed magnetic and/or electric fields.
Abstract:
An air purification device (100), a lighting device and a luminaire are provided. The air purification device comprises an air inlet (132), an air outlet (134), a photocatalytic volume (150), a first solid state light emitter (102) and a second solid state light emitter (122). The air inlet receives an air flow (140). The photocatalytic volume comprises a photocatalytic material and the air flow flows through the photocatalytic volume to contact some air with the photocatalytic material. The photocatalytic volume is between the air inlet and theair outlet. The photocatalytic material is a catalyst under the influence of UV light in photoreactions between gasses in the air flow. The first solid state light emitter emits UV light towards the photocatalytic volume. The second solid state light emitter emits deep blue light towards the photocatalytic volume. The deep blue light has a peak wavelength in between (400) nanometer and (450) nanometer.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a patient interface and a patient interface system comprising a responsive material and a method for preventing the formation of red marks due to wearing a patient interface (10) that is pressing against the skin of a patient (14) for a longer time and/or for reducing air leakages of the patient interface (10) that may result from an unintended shift of the patient interface (10) on the patient's face. The responsive material is configured for alternating the pressure exerted by the cushion element (18, 26) on the patient (14), and/or the area on the patient where the pressure is exerted by the cushion element in response to a physical quantity acting on the responsive material. The formation of red marks and of air leakages can be reduced or even avoided by means of the responsive material.
Abstract:
A breast pump device (1) comprises an expression kit (2) and a vacuum unit (3) configured to realize a pressure cycle in the expression kit (2). For the purpose of determining one or more milk expression characteristics such as total volume of expressed milk, the device (1) is equipped with an acoustic milk expression assessment system (6) including an acoustic sensor (61) and a processor (62) configured to process an acoustic signal received from the sensor (61) during operation of the device (1) when a receptacle (4) is used with the device (1) for receiving expressed milk. By recording sound during a pumping session, it is possible to determine a value of a time duration of a free fall of droplets of expressed milk from the expression kit (2) to the receptacle (4), which can be taken as a measure of a number of interesting milk expression characteristics.
Abstract:
The invention relates a system for implanting an implantable device in bone tissue, a processing unit for such system, a method of implanting an implantable device and a method of providing information for an implanting of an implantable device. In view of the finding that a fat content in cancellous bone is higher than a fat content in compact bone, the lipids fraction, which can be determined by optical means, e.g. spectroscopy, can be used to determine correct screw placement in healthy bone.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a device for monitoring an eye (14) of a subject (54), comprising: a transparent carrier (12) for being in contact with the eye of the subject, allowing an eyelid of the eye to be shut; and a photosensor (20) facing the eye of the subject for receiving light reflected from the eye of the subject and for determining a light intensity of the received light; wherein the transparent carrier includes illumination means (30) for emitting light into the eye of the subject; and wherein the photosensor (20) is arranged in an on-eyelid housing (34) for being applied to the eyelid of the subject (54). The present invention further relates to a device for monitoring an eye of a subject wherein the photosensor is arranged on the transparent carrier (12), and wherein the transparent carrier (12) includes a shielding layer (32) for blocking incident light from entering the eye (14) of the subject (54). Still further, the present invention relates to a system (52) for monitoring a pain level of a subject comprising a device as defined above.
