A beverage making machine having a cartridge holder with an upper portion movable in pivotal and/or linear ways relative to a lower portion. An actuator for the cartridge portion may include a handle-actuated spur gear and link to move the upper portion, which may be guided in movement via a cam and cam follower engagement. Information from a cartridge detector may be used based on movement of cartridge holder portions, e.g., as an upper portion moves from an open position to a closed position. A mixing chamber may be held by a drawer so as to be removable, and movement of the drawer may engage/disengage the mixing chamber from a fluid supply.

The machine further includes a directing device (20) that has a dispensing position for directing said dispensable liquid (5) from the delivery module (10) to a dispensing area (6) and a collecting position for directing collectable liquid (5') from the delivery module (10) to the service area (7). The directing device (20) has only one evacuation portion (21) from which: - the dispensable liquid (5) is evacuated from the directing device (20) to the dispensing area (6) when the directing device (20) is in the dispensing position; and - the collectable liquid (5') is evacuated to the service area (7) when the directing device (20) is in the collecting position.

A dispensing assembly (2) for a machine for the preparation of liquid food products comprises a preparation chamber (7, 8) and a hydraulic circuit (20), which is configured for supplying water and/or steam to the preparation chamber (7, 8). The preparation chamber (7, 8) is configured for receiving at least one dose (9) of a precursor of a liquid food product and for dispensing the liquid food product following upon passage of water and/or steam through the preparation chamber (7, 8). The preparation chamber comprises a first chamber part (7), preferably configured for introducing water and/or steam, and a second chamber part (8), preferably configured for dispensing the liquid food product. At least one chamber part (8) is displaceable with respect to the other chamber part (7) between a spaced-apart position, to enable loading of the aforesaid dose (9) into the preparation chamber, and a close position, to enable introduction of water and/or steam into the preparation chamber and dispensing the liquid food product therefrom. A beverage assembly includes a housing having a liquid reservoir, an inlet portion formed in the housing, a beverage container configured to be removably accommodated within the inlet portion and having a fracturable seal and containing a beverage ingredient of a first size, a grinding mechanism positioned within the housing and in fluid communication with the inlet portion, and a piercing assembly positioned within the housing, wherein the piercing assembly selectively pierces the fracturable seal thereby causing said beverage ingredient to enter the grinding mechanism. The grinding mechanism selectively transforms the beverage ingredient from the first size to a second size, the second size being smaller than the first size. The beverage assembly further includes a brewing area disposed beneath the grinding assembly and configured to removably accommodate the beverage container after the beverage container has been pierced by the piercing assembly.

Die Erfindung betrifft eine Kapsel zur Aufnahme eines Extraktionsguts wie Kaffee und zur Verwendung in einer Extraktionsmaschine. Die Kapsel weist einen Boden (27), eine mit dem Boden (27) verbundene Seitenwand (25), eine dem Boden (27) gegenüberliegende Öffnung und einen Deckel (13) zum Verschliessen der Öffnung (12) auf. Der Deckel (13) ist mit einer Austrittsschicht (14) aus Kunststoff versehen für den Austritt des Extrakts aus der Kapsel. Diese Austrittsschicht (14) weist eine Vielzahl von Schwächungsbereichen (17) auf, welche dazu ausgebildet sind, durch den von innerhalb der Kapsel (11) nach aussen wirkenden Druck des durch die Kapsel (11) geleiteten Extraktionsfluids auszureissen und eine Vielzahl von Filteröffnungen zu bilden, die so klein sind, dass das Extraktionsgut nicht durch die Filteröffnungen austreten kann.
