Abstract:
Personal cleansers and surfactant blends useful therein are disclosed. The cleansers comprise a primary anionic surfactant, a saturated C 8 -C- 14 alkyl N,N- dialkylamide, and water. The cleansers have good foaming properties and improved viscosity build profiles compared with cleansers that rely on alkanolamides or betaines as the secondary surfactant. The saturated C 8 -C 14 alkyl Ν,Ν-dialkylamides are water-white liquids that solubilize cleanser components well, including high levels of fragrances, and can be formulated easily without heating at any actives level up to 100%. Importantly, the surfactant blends build viscosity with less added salt compared with alkanolamide or betaine-based blends, even with more challenging anionic surfactants. Moisturizing cleansers disclosed herein have excellent flash foaming character, foam volume, and foam feel and provide a luxurious, lotion-like after-feel. The personal cleansers include, among others, shampoos, body washes, facial cleansers, shower gels, liquid soaps, hand soaps, baby liquid cleansers, pet shampoos, and bubble baths. The fatty Ν,Ν-dialkylamides are also valuable for formulating oil-in- water emulsions with good stability.
Abstract:
Fatty amine compositions made from a metathesis-derived C10-C17 monounsaturated acid, octadecene-1,18-dioic acid, or their ester derivatives are disclosed. In another aspect, fatty amidoamines made by reacting a metathesis-derived C10-C17 monounsaturated acid, octadecene-1,18-dioic acid, or their ester derivatives with an aminoalkyl-substituted tertiary amine are disclosed. The fatty amines or amidoamines are advantageously sulfonated, sulfitated, oxidized, or reduced. In other aspects, the ester derivative is a modified triglyceride made by self-metathesis of a natural oil or an unsaturated triglyceride made by cross-metathesis of a natural oil with an olefin.
Abstract:
Compositions comprising sulfo-estolides and alkyl ester sulfonates are described. Detergent formulations, such as laundry detergents, softeners, and other materials, containing any of these materials are disclosed, as well as personal care formulations, hard surface cleaner formulations, and automatic dishwasher detergent formulations. Laundry methods employing these formulations are also disclosed. These formulations are useful as laundry detergents and can be biodegradable, heavy duty liquids, 2X or 3X and up to 6X concentrates, low foaming, and/or effective in a high efficiency washing machine. Methods for laundering fabrics with the compositions are also disclosed.

Methods are also disclosed for preparing anhydrous and water-in-oil antiperspirant formulations.
Abstract:
The presently described technology relates to acyl lactylate containing compositions having improved stability and multifunctional performance characteristics (e.g., pH stability, phase stability, hydrolytic stability (e.g., aqueous stability), cleansing, foaming, skin softness and skin moisturization) that may be utilized in rinse-out and leave-on skin and hair applications. The acyl lactylate compositions of the present technology may be delivered to the skin or hair via a conventional delivery vehicle such as a body wash, a shampoo, a bubble bath, a skin cream, or a lotion.
Abstract:
A personal cleansing composition exhibiting enhanced skin feel (i.e., enhanced skin softness, reduced skin irritation, reduced residue, and reduced greasy, tacky, or tight skin feel), enhanced foaming and lather, and good cleansing, more specifically, a personal cleansing composition comprising a mixture of alpha sulfonated alkyl esters or sulfonated fatty acids, or salts thereof, with an alkyl sulfoacetate or ethoxylated alkyl sulfoacetate, or salts thereof, secondary surfactants, and optional additives.
Abstract:
Fatty amide compositions and their derivatives are disclosed. The fatty amides comprise a reaction product of a metathesis-derived C 10 -C 17 monounsaturated acid, octadecene-1,18-dioic acid, or their ester derivatives with a primary or secondary amine. Derivatives made by reducing, quaternizing, sulfonating, alkoxylating, sulfating, and sulfitating the fatty amide are also included. The amine reactant can be diethylenetriamine or (2-aminoethyl)ethanolamine, which provide imidazoline amides or esters, respectively. In one aspect, the ester derivative of the C 10 -C 17 monounsaturated acid or octadecene-1,18-dioic acid is a lower alkyl ester. In other aspects, the ester derivative is a modified triglyceride made by self-metathesis of a natural oil or an unsaturated triglyceride made by cross-metathesis of a natural oil with an olefin. The compositions are valuable for cleaners, fabric treatment, hair conditioning, personal care, antimicrobial compositions, agricultural uses, and oil field applications.
Abstract:
Formulations of personal care compositions and personal care concentrate compositions containing sulfo-estolides are described. Personal care compositions of the present technology include liquid hand soaps, bath and shower washes, shampoos, 2-in-1 or 3-in-1 shampoos, antidandruff shampoo, facial cleaners, among others.
Abstract:
Provided are alkyl lactyllactate compositions that can be prepared from (1) lactide or alternatively lactic acid, and (2) a hydroxyl containing compound such as an alcohol, preferably a fatty alcohol or an alkoxylated alcohol, with (3) an acid catalyst. Preferably, the fatty alcohol contains from about 6 to 18 carbon atoms, such as lauryl alcohol. The alkyl lactyllactates can be used as surfactants, emulsifiers, skin feel agents, film formers, thickeners, rheological modifiers, etc., for personal care and other application areas. Compositions containing at least one alkyl lactyllactate are also provided. The compositions can further contain at least one surfactant
Abstract:
Combustible mixtures for burning applications, such as candles and liquid candles or lamps, comprising low-weight alkyl esters of fatty acids, and preferably methyl esters, as combustion enhancers are disclosed. These esters constitute a natural, renewable alternative to petroleum-derived fuels. The invention is based on the discovery that alkyl esters mixed with paraffin-based or carboxylic acid-based candle fuels yield combustible mixtures with enhanced combustion performance.
