The device includes wash cycle sensing system that controls the release of cleaning composition via temperature and water flow data measured with respect to time. The device includes a refill compartment (22) receiving a multi-section refill (120) including at least two cleaning composition sections (126, 128, 130) divided by separable seams (124). The multi-section refill (120) separates into individual cleaning composition sections (126, 128, 130) during placement in the refill compartment (22) that fall into the slots forming the refill compartment.
