Abstract:
Microbicides for agricultural and horticultural use, containing sulfonamide derivatives such as compounds of general formula (I) or salts thereof; some of the derivatives; and processes for the preparation of the same. In said formula, A is optionally substituted aryl or a heterocyclic group; X is a chemical bond, optionally substituted methylene, or vinylene; B is a five-membered heterocycle or fused-heterocycle group which contains nitrogen or sulfur as the ring-constituent heteroatom and may be substituted; and Z is optionally substituted hydrocarbyl, acyl, formyl, amino, -N=CR R , cyclic amino, -OR , or -S (O)nR (wherein n is 0 to 2). The compounds and the salts exhibit microbicidal effects, are safe by virtue of their little influence on human beings, farm animals, natural enemies, or the environment, and exert excellent control effects even on resistant microbes.

Abstract:
Provided are methods and compositions to control growth of weed plants. The compositions include an herbicidally effective amount of an herbicidally active chemical compound and a thiocyanate, together with an herbicidally acceptable diluent, carrier or excipient. The thiocyanate preparation can be provided in the form of a glucosinolate hydrolysate obtained from Sinapis alba plant material. Methods of making and using the formulations are also provided.
Abstract:
A method for removing or preventing a microbial growth, biofilm, biomass and/or mineral deposit on a hard surface inside an SO 2 scrubber is disclosed. In particular, biocide compositions may be dosed in pulse or continuously for the reduction and prevention of biofilms on the hard surfaces inside an SO 2 scrubber. A biocide composition disclosed here uses one or more non-oxidizing biocides, especially a mixture of one or more quaternary ammonium compounds and one or more other biocides.
Abstract:
Biocidal preservatives for use especially in preventing rotting and deterioration of wood include quaternary ammonium compounds which preferably have a fatty aliphatic substituent on the quaternary nitrogen atom. Especially preferred are cocoalkyl substituents. Other substituents can include alkoxy groups, arenes, and heterocyclic groups with or without ring substitutions, for example. The quaternary ammonium compound can also contain an amine nitrogen and can be complexed with copper.
Abstract:
An antiseptic composition useful in destroying the infectivity of infectious proteins such as prions is disclosed. The antiseptic composition is preferably maintained at a pH of 4.0 or less which allows for an environment under which the active component destroys infectivity. Methods of disinfecting medical instruments, cell culture extracts, gelatin for capsules and other material are also disclosed.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a fungicidal mixture characterized in that it contains in synergistically effective quantities a) a phenyl-benzylether derivative of the formula (I.a), (I.b) or (I.c), and/or a carbamate of the formula (Id), in which X is CH and N, n is 0, 1 or 2 and R is a halogen, C1-C4-alkyl and C1-C4-halogen alkyl, whereby the R radicals can be different if n equals 2, or one of its salts or adducts; and b) an N-acetonyl-benzamide of the formula (II) in which the substituents have the following meaning: R and R independently of each other are a halogen or C1-C4-alkyl; R is a cyano, C1-C4-alkyl, C2-C4-alkenyl, C2-C4-alkynyl or C1-C4-alkoxy; R is a hydrogen or C1-C4-alkyl; R is a C2-C4-alkyl; and R is a thiocyano, isothiocyano or halogen or one of its salts or adducts.
Abstract:
A controlled-release AIT (allyl isothiocyanate) preparation comprising AIT and shellac serving as a barrier against AIT release; the above preparation comprising a shellac containing AIT incorporated therein (an AIT-incorporating shellac); the above preparation wherein the AIT-incorporating shellac is in the form of plate, block or granule; the above preparation wherein the AIT-incorporating shellac has been adhered onto or mixed into a base material; the above preparation wherein the base material is one selected from among plastic plate, paper, non-woven fabric and woven fabric; and the above preparation wherein the AIT of the AIT-incorporating shellac is supported on a carrier. The AIT vapor release rate can be varied by appropriately selecting the chemical composition, preparation process and so forth of the AIT-incorporating shellac. Sustained release of AIT vapor for long is also possible. As the AIT-incorporating shellac can be easily worked into various forms, the AIT preparation can be provided in various forms. It is useful in various fields of food, packaging material, construction material and so forth as a functional material which is highly stable and has antimicrobial, antimold, freshness-retaining and insectproof properties.
