Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a modular distillation system incorporating a removable capsule for containing source material for extraction. Through the action of the invention, the steam distillation process described herein produces a substantially larger amount of volatile oil than a distillation system that does not use an enclosed, modular system. The present invention provides for an apparatus that allows for greater contact between the steam and plant matter during the distillation process through the use of a closed removable capsule containing relatively small amount of plant matter. Additionally, the present invention is directed to a system that allows the generation of higher quality distillate and considerably higher quantity of volatile oil extracts by forcing the steam to evenly disperse through a removable capsule, and by preventing the condensed liquid to return back to the boiling water within the vessel.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur automatisierten Herstellung einer mit einer eine Brüheinheit umfassenden Kaffeezubereitungsvorrichtung (1 ), umfassend die folgenden Schritte: - Einsetzen einer, mit einem mehrere Pulverportionen (11) umfassenden, vorzugsweise verpressten, Pulvervorrat (4) aus gemahlenen Kaffeebohnen vorgefüllten Kartusche (3) in eine Kartuschenaufnahme (2) einer Zubereitungsvorrichtung (1), - Automatisches oder zumindest teilweise manuelles Dosieren einer Pulverportion (11) aus dem Pulvervorrat (4), wobei hierzu der gesamte Pulvervorrat (4) mit Hilfe von Dosiermitteln (10) verstellt, vorzugsweise axial verschoben, und dann die Pulverportion (11) von dem Pulvervorrat (4) abgetrennt wird, - Überführen der Pulverportion (11) zu einer Brüheinheit einer Zubereitungseinrichtung (16), - Automatisches Zubereiten des Kaffees in der Brüheinheit unter Verwendung der Pulverportion (11) und einer erhitzten, trinkbaren Flüssigkeit, die die Pulverportion in der Brüheinheit, insbesondere unter Druck durchströmt, - Verschließen der Kartusche (3) im Bereich einer Auslassöffnung (5) der Kartusche in der Zubereitungsvorrichtung.

The invention encompasses novel compositions containing a methylation modifying compound isolated from botanical raw materials, including a fruit of the genus Coffea , and microbial raw materials, methods of making such compositions, and methods of treating or preventing human disease using such compositions. The methylation modifying compound in botanical extracts of the present invention can dramatically increase the level of methylation of PP2A, thus increasing cognitive function, particularly in persons suffering from or prone to developing Alzheimer's disease.

A process for increasing the levels of polyphenolic acid release into coffee which is brewed from beans which are bathed in an aqueous, basic solution shortly after roasting. The same process is applied to other polyphenolics containing beverage substrates, including teas. The bathing of beverage substrates (coffee beans and tea leaves, for example) with the aqueous agent does not adversely change the taste of the produced beverage, and, in fact, in the case of coffee, such process actually extends the apparent freshness of coffee by inhibiting in the condensation of tannins in the coffee brew, thereby providing, not only the health benefits of the elevated levels of polyphenols, but a means to extend the freshness of the brewed beverage.

The techniques provide for a reconfigurable extraction column length based on the number of columns from a plurality of columns configured for use in an extraction apparatus. The apparatus includes a plurality of columns that each have an inlet, a central portion configured to hold extractable material during an extraction process, and an outlet. The reconfigurable extraction apparatus also includes a piping system connected to each of the plurality of columns that can selectively connect each of the plurality of columns, such that each column from the plurality of columns can be configured for an extraction process either singularly or in series or in parallel with one or more other columns from the plurality of columns, administering a solvent to one or more of the plurality of columns, and outputting the solvent after an extraction process occurs in the one or more of the plurality of columns.
