Methods for screening skin cleansers for mildness include utilization of a volume ratio of vesicles to micelles. A skin cleansing composition comprising a cleansing surfactant is diluted at a weight ratio of at least 5 parts water to 1 part cleansing surfactant, the amounts of vesicles and micelles in the diluted composition are determined and the volume ratio of vesicles to micelles is determined. The skin cleansing composition is considered to be mild if the volume ratio of vesicles to micelles is greater than 50% at any dilution point of 5 parts water to 1 part cleansing surfactant or more.

A method of increasing the solubility of a water-insoluble or slightly water- soluble hydrophobic organic compound in an aqueous solvent comprises adding a saponin component selected from the group consisting of escin, glycyrrhizin, and Quillaya saponaria extract to the aqueous solvent in an amount sufficient to trigger the formation of micelles, wherein in a first step the hydrophobic organic compound is pre-dissolved in an organic solvent, whereupon in a second step the organic solvent comprising the pre-dissolved compound is admixed to the aqueous solvent; whereupon at least a part of the insoluble or slightly soluble hydrophobic organic compound gets solubilized and dissolved in the aqueous solvent, yielding an aqueous composition having an increased concentration of said organic compound dissolved therein. The invention also relates to pharmaceutical or cosmetic compositions comprising a water-insoluble or slightly water-soluble organic compound dissolved in an aqueous solvent at substantially increased concentrations.

The present invention relates to personal wash compositions, in particular shampoo compositions comprising beneficial oils. It has been a long felt need to solubilise beneficial oils such as mineral oil in wormlike micelles in surfactant systems.lt is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a personal wash composition comprising functional levels of beneficial oil such as mineral oil. It has been found that mineral oil can be solubilised in wormlike micelles in a surfactant system with specific hydrophilic or lipophilic linker molecules.

A cavitation device includes a pair of axially aligned opposing nozzles within a housing. Liquid is introduced into the nozzles at a pressure to create rotational vortices within the nozzles, causing cavitation. The thermo-physical reactions resulting from cavitation produce an increase in heat and breaking of the bonds holding large fluid arrays together. Additional cavitation is induced by a collision between the liquid outputs of the opposing nozzles to enhance mixing. By subjecting a mixture of material(s) to be dissolved in water to a cavitation device, a true solution of a lipophilic and water or stable suspension of particulate solids in water can be formed.

Various active agents, such as anti-dandruff agents, hair growth agents, hair inhibitor agents, anti-acne agents, anti-aging agents, depilatory agents, and depigmentation agents, may be effectively delivered into the skin, hair follicles and sebaceous glands using the compositions of the present invention.
