摘要: The invention provides a composition comprising a nanofiber polymer in which the fibers of the nanofiber polymer are aligned, and a molecule is covalently attached, either directly or through a linker, to the nanofiber polymer. This molecule is capable of either covalently or non-covalently attaching to a member selected from an extracellular matrix component, a growth factor, and combinations thereof. The invention also provides methods of making the composition and methods of using the compositions to add new tissue to a subject, such as a human.

摘要: The present disclosure provides spun fibers of proteins useful for the fibers, fiber networks and nonwoven fabrics for medical use, with these materials characterized by good biocompatibility properties (e.g., low tendency toward thromboses and inflammation when implanted into a human or animal). These materials can be fabricated from gelatin, collagen or elastin-mimetic proteins, functionalized proteins of the foregoing types, crosslinked functionalized proteins of the foregoing types, and there may be incorporated nonproteinaceous polymers and/or therapeutic proteins or other medicinal compounds. Additionally, there may be living cells colonized on the material of the present invention or living cells may be incorporated during the fabrication process. These materials can be used in medical applications including, without limitation, vascular grafts, reinforcement of injured tissue, wound healing, artificial organs and tissues, prosthetic heart valves and prosthetic ureters.

摘要: A process for providing a surface of glass, silicon, aluminium or silicone rubber of an article useful within medicine with a biocompatible surface layer. Said surface is reacted (after oxidation when required) with a silane containing at least one epoxy group and the surface thus treated is then reacted with a polysaccharide containing at least one hydroxyl group. The invention also relates to an article exhibiting a biocompatible surface layer of a polysaccharide containing at least one hydroxyl group, which polysaccharide is covalently bound to a surface of glass, silicon, aluminium or silicone rubber of the article by means of a silane.

摘要: A medical needle may include a lumen coating configured to reduce surface energy of the lumen-facing/ lumen defining surface, in a manner effective to slow and/or reduce coagulation of biomaterial (particularly blood) that contacts the needle lumen surface. Such a coating may include a hydrophobic coating such as a silane and/or siloxane material on at least the needle lumen surface. The coating reduces a surface energy of coated needle regions below the surface energy of uncoated regions, and particularly reduces the polar component of the surface energy in the coated needle regions. The needle may be a metallic biopsy needle with the coating comprised by at least a distalmost length of sample-collection lumen.
