Abstract:
Apparatuses and methods for applying a transfer material (22) onto a surface (12) of an article (10) are disclosed, including apparatuses and methods of transfer printing on and/or decorating three-dimensional articles, as well as the articles printed and/or decorated thereby. In some cases, the apparatuses and methods involve providing a deposition device (26), such as a printing device; providing a transfer component (24); depositing a material (22) onto a portion of the transfer component with the deposition device; modifying the portion of the transfer component with the transfer material thereon to conform the transfer component to at least a portion of the surface of the three-dimensional article; and transferring the transfer material onto the surface of the article.

Abstract:
A deformable label processor and related methods are described. The processor is heated and urged against a label, such as a heat transfer label, to apply one or more designs from the label and/or the label itself onto a container or other surface. The processor and methods are well suited for application of labels onto compound curved surfaces. The label processors include particular exhaust assemblies and air diffuser assemblies.
Abstract:
Abstract:
Abstract:
A method of applying a label (12) to an article (10), the method comprising : - providing an article having a surface comprising at least one compound curve (16); - providing a label comprising (i) a heat shrinkable film having an inner surface and an outer surface; and (ii) a layer of pressure sensitive adhesive on the inner surface of the heat shrinkable film, wherein the label has a first edge and a contact region,- - contacting the adhesive layer in the contact region of the label with the article; - applying heat and pressure simultaneously to the label in a direction from the contact region to the first edge such that the first edge of the label adheres to the article and the label shrinks to conform to the compound curve of the article, wherein the heat and pressure are applied by a heated conformable membrane (83a, 83b, 101, 111, 121, 131).
Abstract:
An automatic apparatus for applying labels to produce is provided which utilizes three or more label cassettes angularly disposed in coplanar fashion adjacent a rotary bellows applicator. The cassettes may include labels indicating different sizes or grades of produce, for example, and each produce item being labeled may have a label selected from any one of said multiple cassettes. High label speeds in excess of 1000 labels per minute are achieved along with selective labeling.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method are provided for manually applying labels to produce. Adhesive labels (205) are carried on a split, two part carrier strip (203,208,209) along an axis of motion to a stripper edge (206) and are stripped and thereafter applied by a manual applicator to the produce. The labels are thin and flexible adhesive labels and are momentarily bent about their axis of motion as they approach the stripper edge and the labels are returned to a planar unbent configuration immediately after they are stripped. The invention allows the surface of each produce item to be oriented in a much wider variety of configurations relative to the label carrier strip. The invention also provides a significantly narrower stripping plate for use in manual labeling machines.
Abstract:
A labeling apparatus (40) for labeling objects with labels (6) initially provided sequentially on a label carrier (4), each label (6) to be applied on each object. The apparatus comprises: a motor (26); a transmission mechanism; a label applicator (24) comprising a rotary bellows (22) head. Each bellow (22) is capable of receiving a label (6) off the label carrier (4) at a label receiving position and sticking it onto the object. The apparatus further comprises a hauling mechanism (10) for hauling the label carrier (4) so as to deliver labels (6) to the label receiving position; a transmission mechanism for simultaneously transmitting power form the motor (26) to the label applicator (24) and the hauling mechanism (10); and a synchronization mechanism for synchronizing arrival of a label to the receiving position at the same time a bellow (22) reaches the receiving position.
Abstract:
An apparatus for printing and applying tape. A preferred embodiment of the invention provides an apparatus that includes a printer for printing on tape, a tape puller that pulls the printed tape out from the printer, and an applicator that applies the printed tape to an object. The present invention also generally relates to methods of printing and applying tape to objects.
