摘要: A source liquid including a solvent with a dissolved impurity flows into a reservoir. The source liquid or a concentration of the source liquid is pumped from the reservoir through a pressure exchanger into an upstream side of a liquid-separation module. The liquid-separation module includes a membrane that passes at least partially purified solvent as filtrate while diverting the impurity in a feed retentate. The substantially pure water is extracted from the permeate side of the liquid-separation module, while the feed retentate is passed from the upstream side of the liquid-separation module through the pressure exchanger, where pressure from the feed retentate is transferred to the feed from the reservoir. The feed retentate is then passed from the pressure exchanger to the reservoir and recirculated as a component of the feed via the above steps.

摘要: A membrane-based separation device comprises multiple interconnected flat sheets of membrane bonded to a flexible film. The bonded films are bonded in a way to create an accordion or zig-zag shape. In certain embodiments, the first or upstream layer is affixed to a suitable housing, and the last or most downstream layer is also affixed to the suitable housing. The housing may contain an inlet port for the introduction of sample, and an outlet port for the removal of filtered sample. Flow through the segments is in parallel. Since the membranes are not folded or pleated, higher performance membranes (e.g., polysulfone based membranes with some degree of asymmetry) than those usable in pleated or folded systems can be used.

摘要: The present invention provides a method of purifying a contaminated liquid flow (A) comprising the steps of: introducing a first type of gas bubbles (8) in the contaminated liquid flow (A), the first type of gas bubbles obtained by at least partly saturating a liquid with a first gas (Β'), at a first pressure, followed by a lowering of the first pressure to a second pressure; introducing a second type of gas bubbles (9) to the contaminated liquid flow (A) downstream of the introduction of the first type of gas bubbles, the second type of gas bubbles formed by sparging, entrainment or attrition of a second gas (B"); extracting a reject stream (C) comprising aggregates formed by the interaction of contaminants from the contaminated liquid flow (A) with both the first and the second type of gas bubbles; and obtaining a purified liquid flow (D) downstream of the introduction of the second type of gas bubbles; as well as a system and a vessel for use in such a method.

摘要: An energy-efficient liquid-gap distillation apparatus includes a source of a feed liquid; a distillation module comprising: (a) a feed-liquid chamber in fluid communication with the feed-liquid source to establish a flow of the feed liquid there through, wherein the feed-liquid chamber includes a selectively permeable porous material that allows a component of the feed liquid to pass through the selectively permeable porous material and exit the feed-liquid chamber in vapor form but not in liquid form; (b) a condensing surface maintained at a lower temperature than the feed liquid in the feed-liquid chamber, wherein the condensing surface is sufficiently hydrophobic to produce a contact angle with water of at least 150; and (c) a gap between the selectively permeable porous material and the condensing surface. Vapor passing through the membrane can be condensed as jumping droplets at the condensing surface.

摘要: Disclosed herein are methods and systems for treating greywater from a microbial food decomposition process. A method includes flowing, into a mixing chamber of a water treatment tank, a first volume of untreated greywater. A second volume of recirculated greywater mixed with ozone gas is flowed into the mixing chamber, and mixes with the first volume of untreated greywater to produce a third volume. The third volume of greywater is flowed into a storage tank. The method further includes diverting a first portion of the third volume out of the water treatment tank, and diverting a second portion of the third volume into a recirculation line that flows the second portion back to the mixing chamber.
