Method for the production of a biocompatible polymer-ceramic composite material with a predetermined porosity, designed and determined a priori, which includes a first phase (a) of the production of a suspension of a bioceramic material in distilled water, a second phase (b) in the which a compact of the bioceramic material containing a desired quantity of water is obtained from the suspension, and a third phase (c) in the which the compact is mixed with a polymeric material and/or a liquid monomer.
Abstract:
To produce a composite building unit having a polymer-cladded surface, a polymerizable resin binder and a blend of filler particles are combined to provide a resin binder/filler mixture which is deposited in a mold. A concrete substrate is then positioned in the mold with a face surface contacting a transition layer comprising a lightly filled resin binder/filler layer portion of the deposited mixture overlying a highly filled resin binder/filler layer portion of the deposited mixture. The resin binder in the transition layer migrates into pockets and pores in the substrate face surface to create mechanical locks when the resin binder is cured. These locks, in addition to chemical bonding, serve to permanently affix the cured resin binder as a surface cladding to the substrate. Initiators may be added to the resin binder to promote thermal and/or UV radiation cures thereof.

A (meth)acrylic premix comprising a (meth)acrylic resin composition (A) which comprises a (meth)acrylic monomer (b) and a (meth)acrylic polymer (b), an inorganic filler (B) and a curing agent (C), wherein the component (a) is a (meth)acrylate having a bicyclic ring, a fluorine atom, a cyclic ether, a cyclohexane ring or a tricyclic ring, and the component (C) is a radical polymerization initiator having a 10-hour half-life temperature of 75 DEG C or higher; an acrylic SMC or BMC comprising the (meth)acrylic premix and a thickener; and a process for producing a (meth)acrylic artificial marble by heating the (meth)acrylic SMC or BMC at a temperature in the range of 105 to 150 DEG C to cure it under pressure. The premix, SMC and BMC are useful for producing a (meth)acrylic artificial marble having excellent properties such as appearance, dimensional stability, hot water resistance and weather resistance.

A cementitious composition may include polyvinyl alcohol, high alumina cement, water, a metallic coagent, a peroxide crosslinking initiator, and an organic acid retardant. A molded article may be manufactured from the cementitious composition by preparing a hydrogel pre-polymer blend of saponified polyvinyl alcohol acetate (PVAA) with greater than or equal to about 85% saponified PVAA, and water, mixing the hydrogel pre-polymer blend with high alumina cement (HAC) using a high shear mixing process, mixing in a metallic coagent and a peroxide crosslinking initiator, mixing in an organic acid retardant, and hot pressing the mixture at approximately 5 MPa pressure and approximately 90 degrees C for approximately 30 minutes.

The present invention provides an elastomeric material obtainable by curing a composition comprising a mixture of a liquid precursor of a glass ionomer cement and a powdered precursor of a glass ionomer cement, said liquid precursor comprising at least one polymerisable monomer present in a range of between 2 to 50 % by weight of said liquid precursor of a glass ionomer cement, a carboxylic acid polymer, and an aqueous solvent, wherein said liquid precursor of a glass ionomer cement and said powdered precursor of a glass ionomer cement are present in a ratio of between about 2.5:1 and about 1:1 by weight.

There is described a composition for synthetic stone. The composition having (a) 3 to 25wt % acrylic resin, the acrylic resin having:- (i) >50 upto 95 wt% methyl methacrylate and methyl methacrylate monomer residues, (ii) 4 to 40wt% higher boiling point mono(alk)acrylate monomer, (iii) optionally, 0 to 10 wt% other acrylate or vinyl comonomer residues, and(iv) a crosslinking agent. The MMA residues of component (a)(i) are present in the acrylic resin in the form of a MMA residue containing (co)polymer, comprising at least 80% residues of MMA by weight of the (co)polymer. The composition further having (b) 70 to 95 wt% filler; and (c) optionally, a coupling agent. The composition being especially useful for the manufacture of synthetic stone for use in outdoor applications.

The invention relates to coating compositions, treated reinforced fibers, reinforced asphalt and portland cement concrete and methods for producing the same. The coating compositions include monomer, prepolymer or mixtures thereof, and graft initiator. The monomer and/or prepolymer include at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of hydroxyl, carboxyl, amino and ester. This graft initiator includes metallic salt.

Una composición de recubrimiento acuoso para el sellado de poros superficiales resistente a la suciedad que conserve un elevado brillo de la superficie exterior siendo fácil de eliminar, por procedimientos mecánicos, la capa depositada sobre la superficie que queda tras su aplicación. La composición comprende: Un polímero líquido obtenido por polimerización de una mezcla que contiene diacrilato de hexanodiol y tri/tetraacrilato de pentaeritritol o sus derivados; un monómero acrílico (diacrilato de etilo); un aditivo superficial (copolímero polidimetilxiloxano, modificado con poliéster); un antiespumante (alquilbenceno modificado con acetato de metoxipropilo); un fotoiniciador (benzofenona); y un disolvente alcohólico alifático (metanol). El procedimiento para el sellado comprende: Secado de dicho sustrato previamente pulido; aplicación del producto orgánico, mediante una espatuladora; paso por un túnel de radiación ultravioleta; maduración del polímero; eliminación del polímero residual de la superficie de la baldosa, a través de cepillos.
