Abstract:
Disclosed herein are compositions and methods for increasing the viscosity of a calcium-containing fluid by addition of a modifying agent. The resulting enhanced viscosity fluid may be used in a variety of applications including drilling, to create an enhanced-viscosity fluid, and demolition/mining to create an expansive putty for use in underwater and overhead applications.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A self-healing cement for use in wells in which carbon dioxide is injected, stored or extracted, comprises a carbonaceous material. In the event of cement-matrix failure, or bonding failure between the cement/casing interface or the cement/borehole-wall interface, the materia! swells when contacted by carbon dioxide. The swelling seals voids in the cement matrix, or along the bonding interfaces, thereby restoring zonal isolation.
Abstract:
The present invention refers to a system for extraction of geothermal energy and describes the method of filling and directing the borehole for effective thermal exchange between hot dry rocks and heating fluid in a closed coaxial pipe-in-pipe system. The set of coaxial circulation pipes (2, 4) is placed into the borehole (1), perpendicularly to the earth surface (15) in the cold layers of the earth (16). Approaching the hot layers of the earth (17), the borehole is directed at an angle of 30-90° against vertical direction. After drilling the borehole (1) the casing of the external pipe (2), is bonded with hot rock (17) by injection under the pressure of a material (6) of increased thermal conductivity, tightly filling the borehole (1 ) and void spaces around the external pipe (2), providing maximum thermal contact between the pipe (2) and the rock (17). The coaxial system of the pipes provides downgoing flow (7) from the surface to hot subterranean area for heating in the external pipe (2), and upgoing flow (8) through the internal pipe (4). Thermal energy is carried to the surface of the ground by heating liquid. After transferring to the consumer through the heat exchanger (10) the heating liquid is returned to the pipe (2) for recurrent heating.
Abstract:
Anti-tamper concrete (ATC) coatings for pipelines and cementitious compositions for making anti-tamper concrete coatings are described. In accordance with one embodiment, there is provided a cementitious composition, comprising : a cement selected from a Portland cement, a calcium aluminate (CA) cement or a geopolymer cement; aggregate including a hard aggregate having a Mohs hardness of 8 or more; water.
Abstract:
Syntactic foams and thermal insulation as described containing epoxy resin, hollow microspheres, and dried sol-gel or fumed metal oxide for forming a thermal insulating layer on a substrate such as a pipeline. Methods for forming such thermal insulating layers are also described, which can include formulating with blowing agents for forming closed cells in the finished insulating foam.
Abstract:
The invention relates to the use of a cross-linkable composition with controlled cross-linking, preferably delayed cross-linking, as a material for fixing and thermally insulating tubes used for casing in drill holes, especially oil drill holes, during exploitation operations, such as oil extraction, in the hole.
