Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for the transition metal-mediated oxidation of C-H bonds to form C-0 or C-S bonds. The methods are useful for the formation of ethers (R-OR') from alcohols, R'OH, and sp3 -hybridized C-H bonds in substrates, R-H. Aryl or heteroaryl acetates may also be used for C-H to C-OAr bond formation. The methods are also useful in the preparation of C-S bonds from acetyl-protected thiols, MeC(0)SR, and disulfides, RSSR. Advantageously, the methods minimize reaction steps, the handling of oxidized intermediates, and environmental impact.

Abstract:
A process for oligomerizing isobutene comprises contacting a feedstock comprising isobutene with a catalyst comprising a MCM-22 family molecular sieve under conditions effective to oligomerize the isobutene, wherein said conditions including a temperature from about 45°C to less than 140°C. The isobutene may be a component of a hydrocarbon feedstock containing at least one additional C 4 alkene.
Abstract:
A process for synthesizing ether, particularly diisopropyl ether (DIPE), by olefin hydration or alcohol dehydration uses a catalyst composition containing zeolite beta having a reduced surface acidity. The surface acidity is reduced by treatment of organic-containing zeolite beta with a dicarboxylic acid, such as oxalic acid.

Abstract:
A process for the production of C 4 olefins, which may include: contacting a hydrocarbon mixture comprising alpha-pentenes with an isomerization catalyst to form an isomerization product comprising beta-pentenes; contacting ethylene and the beta-pentenes with a first metathesis catalyst to form a first metathesis product comprising butenes and propylene, as well as any unreacted ethylene and C 5 olefins; and fractionating the first metathesis product to for an ethylene fraction, a propylene fraction, a butene fraction, and a C 5 fraction.
Abstract:
A butanol production system and method of producing refined mixed butanols from water and mixed butenes. The system includes an internal baffle single pass reactor, a separation system and an exterior motion driver. The reactor has baffled cells. The separations system is operable to separately selectively separate water and mixed butenes from the crude product such that a refined mixed butanols is produced. The exterior motion driver is operable to induce unsteadiness in the fluid flow of the process fluid through the reactor. A method for producing refined mixed butanols includes introducing mixed butenes, water and a butene hydration catalyst into the reactor, operating the butanol production system such that the external motion driver induces unsteadiness in the process fluid flow and the reaction of mixed butenes and water occurs in the presence of the butene hydration catalyst such that mixed butanols form.
Abstract:
Methods and systems are provided for converting methane in a feed stream to acetylene. The method includes processing acetylene as an intermediate stream to form a stream having oxygenates. The hydrocarbon stream is introduced into a supersonic reactor and pyrolyzed to convert at least a portion of the methane to acetylene. The reactor effluent stream may be treated to convert acetylene to oxygenates through subsequent reactors.
Abstract:
Briefly, in one aspect, this invention provides a catalytic method of preparation of primary and secondary hydrofluoroethers, the process comprising reacting a fluorinated precursor material and an alkylating agent in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst or a mixture comprising Lewis acid and Bronsted acid catalysts.
