Abstract:
The presently claimed invention is directed to novel polyesters which are obtainable by reacting a mixture comprising at least one C8-C20 Guerbet alcohol, at least one aliphatic or cycloaliphatic dicarboxylic acid and at least one polyol with a hydroxyl functionality in the range of ≥ 2 to≤ 6 and the use of these polyesters as a component of lubricating oil compositions.

Abstract:
This invention relates to novel water soluble metal working fluid compositions, their use to work metal, a process for working metal using such compositions and the metal worked article of manufacture. More particularly, this invention relates to fluid compositions useful in cutting, grinding, shaping and other metal working operations which require a lubricant. The terms "first Group A" and "second Group B" are used herein to denote different groups and not to indicate any sequence of use or selection as any possible combination or sequence of use of a component(s) is envisioned without limit of any kind. The disclosed fluid compositions are also anticorrosive and environmentally more acceptable than current oil based fluids. There has now been discovered an essentially odorless, substantially non-oil misting, water-soluble metal working fluid comprising at least one component selected from a first Group A herein and optionally one or more components selected from a second Group B herein preferably with the balance of the composition being water and other (optional) minor ingredients. When a component is employed from Group A and a component is employed from Group B the action of the combination generally enhances performance of the resulting combination with contain moieties from both Group A and Group B.
Abstract:
A process is provided for preventing grease fires, which is particularly useful in steel mills and process mills. In the process, when a flame is ignited and approaches a special grease, the special grease emits carbon dioxide to extinguish the flame and prevents combustion of the grease.
Abstract:
Described herein are lubricant compositions that include combinations of lubricant additives that are effective at improving the surface finish of a range of manufactured materials and equipment. In particular, friction modifiers and antiwear additives are employed to decrease surface roughness of additive manufactured (AM), e.g., 3D printed, materials and equipment in concert with maximizing energy efficiency.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a liquid fuel composition comprising: a base fuel suitable for use in an internal combustion engine; and one or more poly (hydroxycarboxylic acid) derivative having a terminal acid group having formula (III): [Y-CO [O-A-CO] n -Z p ] m -X (III) wherein Y is hydrogen or optionally substituted hydrocarbyl group, A is a divalent optionally substituted hydrocarbyl group, n is from 1 to 100, m is 1 or 2, Z is an optionally substituted divalent bridging group, p is 0 or 1, and X is terminal acid group or a group carrying a terminal acid group, wherein the terminal acid group is selected from carboxylic acid, carboxymethyl, sulphate, sulphonate, phosphate and phosphonate.
Abstract:
A slide way lubricant composition includes at least (a) a hydrotreated petroleum having a viscosity of from about 10 cSt to about 250 cSt as measured at 40 DEG C and consisting predominantly of hydrocarbons having from about 15 to about 50 carbon atoms per molecule and (b) a polymeric synthetic ester having an average molecular weight of at least about 200,000. The hydrotreated petroleum may be employed in an amount of from about 97.8 to about 99.4 weight percent and the ester may be employed in the composition in an amount of from about 0.6 to about 2.2 weight percent. The ester may be derived from the reaction between a dicarboxylic acid and a polyhydric alcohol. The composition may further include an adhesion additive having an average molecular weight of at least about 1,000,000 and a high pressure agent, such as a trisulfide. A demulsibility agent may also be employed. Another embodiment is a method of making the slide way lubricant composition which includes heating the hydrotreated petroleum to a temperature of from about 90 DEG F to about 120 DEG F and blending the polymeric synthetic ester and any other desired components or additives into the headed hydrotreated petroleum. Another embodiment is a method of lubricating a slide way having bearings which includes applying a lubricant composition to the bearings wherein the lubricant composition includes the above described hydrotreated petroleum.
