The assembly includes sufficient outtake ports to accommodate flow of hydrocarbons from the riser through a subsea flexible conduit to the surface structure. The upper end of the member includes a connector for connecting to a subsea buoyancy device. The lower end of the member comprises a profile suitable for fluidly connecting to the riser.

A method and apparatus for heating a portion of a subsea structure is provided. The method includes pumping a fluid through a length of tubing such that the temperature of the fluid increases. The temperature increase of the fluid is created by friction in the tubing, and may be also be created by at least one pressure reducing device such as an orifice, pressure reducing valve, or relief valve. A subsea structure may be heated by transferring heat from fluid circulating in a closed loop configuration or by direct application of fluid to the subsea structure using a nozzle. A remotely operated vehicle may be utilized to transport some or all of the equipment necessary, including pumps, tubing, heat exchangers, nozzles and tanks. The remotely operated vehicle provides power to the pumps used for circulating fluid through the tubing.

A method of sealing an annulus between inner and outer pipe sections (18, 12) of a pipe-in-pipe system comprises: positioning a sealing mass (30) in the annulus in contact with the inner and outer pipe sections; deforming the sealing mass, for example by shearing and compression, by effecting relative longitudinal movement between the inner and outer pipe sections; and fixing the inner and outer pipe sections against reverse relative longitudinal movement to maintain deformation of the sealing mass. The inner pipe section and a displaced outer pipe section may be fixed by welding them to respective pipes of an adjoining pipe-in-pipe structure. Opposed ramp surfaces, each being similarly inclined relative to the longitudinal direction, extend into the annulus from respective ones of the pipe sections such that the sealing mass may be compressed between the ramp surfaces.

A method of producing fluid from a hydrocarbon reservoir is described in which, in particular embodiments, a production tubing section is provided in a well and is arranged to contain therein a flow of production fluid, and a power fluid for a downhole HSP is circulated adjacent to the production tubing section, so that the power fluid protects the production fluid against any one or more of: hydrate formation; wax appearance; and wax deposition. A circulation pump can be used to circulate the power fluid and the power fluid is preferably supplied with heat from the pump to keep the power fluid warm.

The pump is configured to pump hydrocarbons and sand from the formation to the surface. The central axis of the pump is oriented at an angle α measured downward from vertical. The angle is between 60° and 90°.
