A filter element with an improved mounting frame and method of assembly are provided. The filter element includes a filter media pack with a mounting frame attached to the outer periphery of the filter media pack. The mounting frame defines a channel that holds a shut-off material for preventing leakage of an adhesive securing the mounting frame to the filter media pack. A filter element that includes a polymeric material between the filter media pack and the adhesive is also provided. The shut-off material may be pre-formed or applied in a flowable state.

The invention relates to an air filter cartridge (16) for an air filter (10). The air filter cartridge (16) has a filter medium. The air filter cartridge (16) has an inlet surface and an outlet surface. Air can be filtered by the filter medium when passing between the inlet surface and the outlet surface in the direction of a passage axis (18) of the air filter cartridge (16). The air filter cartridge (16) further has a frame, which is connected to a tongue, i.e. a protrusion, to easily lever the air filter cartridge (16) into a receiving portion of a filter housing (22) of an air filter (10). The tongue has a free end that is displaced to the frame in a direction parallel to the passage axis (18). The invention further relates to an air filter (10) comprising an aforementioned air filter cartridge (16). The air filter (10) comprises a filter housing (22) with a mounting aid for the reception of the tongue of the air filter cartridge (16). With respect to the passage axis (18) of the air filter cartridge (16), the mounting aid is built in a distance to the receiving portion of the filter housing.

This invention comprises an Air filter element frame for the internal combustion engine of seal comprising a compressible seal or compressible gasket; illustrated by a polyurethane foam seal/gasket; and a process of making the illustrative seal/gasket wherein two parts of a mould provide a channel around the four margins of the air filter elements that have Guide Slots and molten polyurethane mixture is filled up, entrained with air bubbles and the compressible seal is formed around the margins. The Air filter element frame made of thermoplastic material combined with additives comprises an air filter element frame holding feature, filter paper media, a Guide Slot provided on all the four margins holding the polyurethane foam seal/gasket that facilitates assembly by press fitting. The filter paper media used are insert molded into the air filter element frame.

The seal member is structured to form a seal between the filter element and the housing when the filter element is installed in the housing.

The air filter (10) comprises a supporting device by means of which the filter element (12) inserted in the filter housing (4) is clamped in the filter housing (14) at least in a supporting region at a distance from the seal (28) in the direction of insertion (116), said clamping being at least transverse to the direction of insertion (116), wherein the transverse tensioning is produced under cooperation of the filter element (12) with the inner sides of the filter housing (14) and through the insertion movement of the filter element (12). A filter element of such an air filter is also described.
