The monitoring device (16) is comprised of a comparator (17) of which one input is supplied by a voltage (URef) which is proportional to the output voltage (UA) of the regulating device and the other input is supplied by a differential voltage (UD) exceeding a threshold value and taken at the input of the voltage regulating device. The output of the comparator provides an ON and OFF signal accessible to the consumer.

The uneven charge and discharge from non-collocated batteries within an HMD can be solved by monitoring the DC current on the paths coupled to the first battery and the second battery and making an adjustment in the path resistance to equalize, or at least reduce, the difference between the currents on the two paths. Aspects of the technology described herein monitor current on paths from two or more non-collocated batteries. When the currents are different, resistance is dynamically added to the path with the higher current to equalize the current in the two paths. The monitoring and resistance adjustment can occur during discharge from a battery to a load and during battery recharge.

In order to detect jamming said device uses induced voltage (Uind) in the armature of the engine (1) as a measure of reference. Induced voltage is determined from engine terminal voltage (Ubat) and current (1A) flowing through the armature of the engine (1). Said voltage is determined from the difference between engine terminal voltage and and the product of armature current and armature resistance (RA) which is determined as regularly as possible. Armature resistance is determined from (RA) from engine terminal voltage and engine blocking current (Iblock) which is determined by extrapolation of armature current at a given time (T0). Armature current is measured via a shunt resistor (3) and amplified if necessary (5) . The determined current signal (V1) is averaged with adaptable calculated integration times by means of an integrator (5, 7) controlled by a microcontroller and digitized by means of an analog to digital converter.
