The system comprises temperature sensing means configured to provide a temperature value associated with the battery, impedance measuring means configured to provide impedance information associated with the battery, and a controller. The controller is configured to determine a threshold impedance associated with a separator membrane of the battery based on an initial impedance of the separator membrane as measured by the impedance measuring means and a battery temperature as measured by the temperature sensing means, monitor, during operation of the battery, an actual impedance associated with the separator membrane of the battery based on the impedance information and the battery temperature, permit current flow to and from the battery when actual impedance is greater than the threshold impedance, and prevent current flow to and from the battery when the actual impedance is less than or equal to the threshold impedance.

    摘要: Systems and methods for determining self discharge currents in an energy storage cell and detecting internal shorts are disclosed. A system includes a DC voltage source configured to provide a constant test voltage selected to be less than an open circuit voltage of an energy storage cell to the energy storage cell. The system also includes a current measuring device operably coupled between the DC voltage source and the energy storage cell, and control circuitry operably coupled to the current measuring device. A method includes applying the constant test voltage, and measuring the test current flowing between the DC voltage source and the energy storage cell until after the test current switches from a negative current to a positive current. The method also includes determining a self discharge current of the energy storage cell by analyzing the measured test current with computational models that capture physical processes tied to the test methods.

    摘要: A system and method for monitoring characteristics of an electric energy device includes generating an external short from the electric energy device. The external short occurs at a known distance from a sensor and has at least one known external resistance. The received signal representing change in electromagnetic field due to the applied external short may be analyzed to determine a signal parameter that is then analyzed in comparison to a lookup table, based on the known conditions including distance, temperature and the external resistance. The output of this analyses in comparison with expected values may be utilized to identify a characteristic of the energy device.
