Abstract:
A drive system (184) that coordinates the rotation of a first and second rotating element, the first element (50) carrying the second element (52). The drive system also having a first motor (66) and a second motor (72), both motors having at least two poles (PA, PB). A drive control mechanism (186) is electrically connected to the poles of the first motor and the second motor. As the drive control rotates the first motor at a fixed rate, the first and second motors exchange power whenever a phase error occurs between the first and second motors. This power exchange eliminates the phase error and keeps the second motor in synch with and operating at the same rate as the first motor.
Abstract:
A method for determining accuracy of an actual position of a plurality of independent motors in a pπnting press is provided The method includes commanding each of the plurality of motors in the pπnting press via a controller to move a desired initial position, comparing an actual position of each motor to the desired initial position of each motor, determining if the actual position of each motor is within a predetermined tolerance of the desired initial position, and resetting any motor outside the predetermined tolerance to be within the predetermined tolerance A pnnting press is also provided The pnnting press includes a plurality of pπnting press components and a plurality of motors Each motor dπves at least one of the pπnting press components and each of the motors has a desired initial position The pnnting press also includes a position detector for determining an actual position of the motor.
Abstract:
A method for is disclosed for using pulse-width modulated (PWM) signals in the control of a plurality of electric motors. The method comprises steps of: measuring the current being drawn by each of said electric motors; transmitting signals corresponding to the current being drawn said plurality of motors to a central controller; transmitting from said central controller signals corresponding to the amount of current to be drawn by each motor, whereby the relative phases and durations of said signals are distributed according to a predetermined protocol; and repeating steps (a) through (c) while said plurality of electric motors are in operation. The distribution of PWM signals defines the total current drawn from said source of electricity as a function of time.
