Abstract: 본 개시의 다양한 실시예는 영상수신장치로부터 수신한 제어 정보에 기초하여 결정된 네트워크 대역 예측값 및 해상도/프레임율 변경 여부를 판단할 수 있는 기준값인 이중 대역 임계값에 기초하여 영상의 해상도/프레임율을 변경함으로써 네트워크 대역 변동성에 강건하게 대처할 수 있는 영상송신장치 및 방법에 관한 것이다. 이를 위한 영상송신장치는 영상신호를 입력받고; 상기 영상신호의 해상도 또는 프레임율의 변경 여부를 판단할 수 있는 기준값인 이중 대역 임계값을 설정하고; 영상수신장치로부터 수신한 소정의 제어 정보에 기초하여 네트워크 대역 예측값을 결정하고; 상기 네트워크 대역 예측값 및 상기 이중 대역 임계값에 기초하여 영상의 해상도 또는 프레임율의 변경 여부를 판단하고; 해상도 또는 프레임율이 변경된 경우, 프레임 시퀀스 정보를 갱신하고; 변경된 해상도 또는 프레임율에 기초하여 인코딩 파라미터를 설정하고; 상기 설정된 인코딩 파라미터에 기초하여 영상신호를 인코딩하고; 상기 인코딩된 영상신호를 상기 영상수신장치에게 송신하는 동작들을 포함할 수 있다.

Abstract: In various embodiments, a media delivery application transmits encoded chunks of a media title to a playback application. In operation, the media delivery application receives, via a media channel, an encoded chunk request that has been transmitted over a TCP connection. The media delivery application also receives, via a side channel, a pacing specification that is associated with the encoded chunk request and has been transmitted over the TCP connection. As per the encoded chunk request, the media delivery application retrieves encoded chunk content. The media delivery application sets a parameter associated with the TCP connection equal to a parameter value based on the pacing specification. Subsequently, the media delivery application causes TCP segments corresponding to the encoded chunk content to be transmitted, via the media channel, over the TCP connection in accordance with the first parameter value.

Abstract: An online system receives video data items from users and encodes the video data items using various codecs. To account for different computational resources used for encoding using different codecs, the online system ranks combinations of video data items by ratios of encoding video data items with different codecs to computational costs of encoding different video data items with different codecs. The benefit of encoding a video data item with a codec is based on a compression efficiency of the codec and a predicted aggerate amount of the video data item displayed to various users of the online system. Encoding video data items with codecs based on the determined ratios allows the online system to optimize a duration of video data having at least a threshold video quality to users.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for selecting efficient encoders for streaming media may include (i) predicting that an expected download demand for a higher-demand segment of a media file is higher than an expected download demand for a lower-demand segment, (ii) encoding each segment of the media file with an encoder that correlates to the expected download demand of the segment by (a) encoding the higher-demand segment with a more computationally intensive encoder that produces a more efficiently compressed segment compared to a less computationally intensive encoder that produces a less efficiently compressed segment and (b) encoding the lower-demand segment with the less computationally intensive encoder, and (iii) enabling streaming of the media file by providing the more efficiently compressed encoding of the higher-demand segment and the less efficiently compressed encoding of the lower-demand segment. Various other methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.
