A system receives information describing paths traversed by vehicles of a vehicle type, for example, a bicycle or a motorcycle. The system determines locations along the paths. For each location the system determines a measure of likelihood of encountering vehicles of the vehicle type in traffic at the location. The system selects a subset of locations based on the measure of likelihood and obtains sensor data captured at the subset of locations. The system uses the sensor data as training dataset for training a machine learning based model configured to receive input sensor data describing traffic and output a score used for navigation of autonomous vehicles. In an example, provided is a method that can include (i) creating, from digital images, a map of a structure; (ii) identifying a location of a robot in the structure; (iii) segmenting, using a machine learning-based classifying algorithm trained based on object affordance information, the digital images to identify potentially contaminated surfaces within the structure; (iv) creating a map of potentially contaminated surfaces within the structure; (v) calculating a trajectory of movement of the robot to move the robot to a location of a potentially contaminated surface in the potentially contaminated surfaces; and (vi) moving the robot along the trajectory of movement to position a directional decontaminant source adjacent to the potentially contaminated surface. A method and system for robot motion control using a model predictive control (MPC) technique including torque rate control and suppression of end tooling oscillation. An MPC module includes a robot dynamics model which inherently reflects response nonlinearities associated with changes in robot configuration, and an optimization solver having an objective function with a torque rate term and inequality constraints defining bounds on both torque and torque rate. The torque rate control in the MPC module provides an effective means of controlling jerk in robot joints, while accurately modeling robot dynamics as the robot changes configuration during a motion program. End tooling oscillation dynamics may also be included in the MPC objective function and constraints in order to automatically control end tooling vibration in the calculations of the MPC module.

The workholding system includes a support body with a contoured body surface, complementary to a workpiece surface, formed of a transparent material to define a bonding zone. The support body is supported by a base to form a workpiece shuttle, and a bond station receives the workpiece shuttle. Complementary zero-point locating elements on the shuttle and station assure accurate positioning. The bond station further has workpiece locating elements configured to accurately position the workpiece on the shuttle in a predetermined position relative to the zero-point locating elements of the shuttle, thereby compensating for shuttle-to-shuttle variance. An adhesive, such as a UV curable adhesive, is applied to the bonding zone and cured by UV through the transparent material, thereby fixing the workpiece in the predetermined position.

A method of repairing an ultra-large single-piece cast component of a vehicle body. The method includes the steps of locating a damaged portion of the cast component, determining an extent of the damaged portion of the ultra-large cast component, defining a cut-line sectioning off the damaged portion from an undamaged portion of the ultra-large cast component, cutting along the cut-line to excise the damaged portion from the undamaged portion of the ultra-large cast component, and joining a replacement piece to the undamaged portion of the ultra-large cast component. The replacement piece is fabricated based on the original manufacturer's geometry and dimensional data of the excised damaged portion. The undamaged portion of the ultra-large cast component remains on the vehicle body during the repair.

A tool electrode is manufactured for removing material from a target workpiece, and the workpiece and tool electrode are fixed into a processing machine that imparts an oscillatory motion path or profile and applies a voltage through a flowing electrolyte solution. The disclosed technique and processing machine removes material from the surface of the target workpiece through proximal surface dissolution as the workpiece and tool electrode are brought within proximity of one another.
