Abstract: A flame retardant optical fiber is provided. The flame retardant optical fiber includes a glass core, a cladding surrounding the glass core and a primary coating adhered to the cladding. The flame retardant optical fiber also includes a secondary coating surrounding the primary coating, wherein the secondary coating is formed from a coating composition that is substantially free of an oligomeric component and that comprises a flame retardant composition including a flame retardant material.

Abstract: There is provided a silver powder which has a small average particle diameter and a small thermal shrinkage percentage, and a method for producing the same. While a molten metal of silver heated to a temperature (1292 to 1692 °C), which is higher than the melting point (962 °C) of silver by 330 to 730 °C, is allowed to drop, a high-pressure water is sprayed onto the molten metal of silver (preferably at a water pressure of 90 to 160 MPa) to rapidly cool and solidify the molten metal of silver to powderize silver to produce a silver powder which has an average particle diameter of 1 to 6 µ m and a shrinkage percentage of not greater than 8 % (preferably not greater than 7 %) at 500 °C, the product of the average particle diameter by the shrinkage percentage at 500 °C being 1 to 11 µ m · % (preferably 1.5 to 10.5 µ m · %).

Abstract: The present invention relates to an adhesive compound consisting essentially of an organic phase and inorganic phase, the organic phase comprising an amorphous aliphatic (co)polymer having a Ring & Ball softening point of between 75 and 180 °C, and a second aliphatic material having a Tg of about -5 °C or lower and a viscosity of 120 mm 2 /s at 100 °C or less, wherein said organic components are present in weight amounts of between 95/5 and 10/90; the inorganic phase comprising a filler, the filler being present in amount of at least about 15 wt% in the total composition. The compositions are suitable for anti-corrosion coatings or sealants against filtration or penetration of water or moisture. A rubber material may be added to this compound or other anti-corrosion coatings to increase the yield point at high temperatures.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are laser activatable compositions. One composition may comprise: about 35% to about 75% by weight of at least one polyamide resin, preferably a 9,T resin; about 0.1% to about 20% by weight of a laser direct structuring additive; the laser activatable additive being operative to plate the composition upon being activated by a laser; about 0.5% to 20% by weight of a phosphorus-containing additive, preferably an organo phosphinate salt; and about 10% to 50% by weight of a reinforcing fiber, preferably a glass fiber having a substantially circular cross-section, the substantially circular cross-section having a diameter of 10 microns or less; where all weight percents are based on the total weight of the composition. Further embodiments provide compositions further comprising one or more organic, metallic, or mineral fillers, pigments, or combinations thereof. Also disclosed are methods of preparing these compositions and articles produced therefrom.
