A combustor (2) for the combustion of fuel gas is described. The fuel gas entering the combustor (2) by an inlet pipeline (20) is a compressed admixture with air of a concentration below the lower explosive limit. The fuel gas/air admixture passes within a tube (6) to pass to the combustion zone (8) where combustion occurs only by reaction/self-combustion. The combusted gas passes by a tortuous path provided by an arrangement of baffles (10) to the outlet duct (22). The exhausting combusted gas passes over the outer surface of the tube (6) and gives up preheating heat to the inlet gas therein. A gas turbine system (100) for utilising waste fuel gas also is described that includes a combustor (2, 114) as described that provides combusted fuel to the expansion stage (104) of the turbine (100).

Un procede combine de liquefaction-gazeification du charbon-reformage du naphta a partir de charbon dans lequel la boue (74) contenant essentiellement la totalite du charbon dissous solide, dans la zone de liquefaction (22, 26) constitue essentiellement la seule alimentation en hydrocarbures pour la zone de gazeification (76) et dans lequel une partie du naphta produit dans la zone de liquefaction est passee au travers de la zone de reformage (148) pour sa conversion en essence, le restant du naphta etant brule en tant que combustible dans le procede. La quantite d'hydrocarbures chargee dans la zone de gazeification est etablie de maniere telle que l'efficacite thermique du procede ne soit pas sensiblement influencee par des changements dans le rapport du naphta passe au travers de la zone de reformage au naphta brule en tant que combustible pour le procede. L'efficacite thermique du procede est maintenue a un haut niveau nonobstant des variations mineures du rendement en charbon dissous, normalement solide, dues au changement du rapport de naphta passe au travers de la zone de reformage au naphta brule en tant que combustible.

There is provided an apparatus (1) and methods for processing biomass to produce charcoal, bio-oil(s) activated carbon, recarburizer carbon, or nut coke by means of microwave energy. The apparatus has a rotatable tube (5) for receiving biomass (108), an electromagnetic generator (7). One method provides applying electromagnetic energy to the biomass (108) and an absorbing material (109). An alternative method provides allowing an indirect, black body radiation field to develop, and exposing the biomass (108) to the black body radiation field and the electromagnetic energy. Another method provides allowing plasma to form and exposing the biomass to the plasma and the electromagnetic energy. Another method provides introducing the biomass to a second container (205), introducing the second container to a first reaction container (5), applying electromagnetic energy to the biomass and an absorbing material (109), allowing a plasma to form in the first container, which heats the biomass in the second container.
