摘要： Remote downloading of number assignment module designation parameters into a read-only memory circuit (216) of a wireless telephone subscriber set (200) (e.g., mobile, cordless, etc.) can be achieved by incorporating a tone signals receiver (212) into the set and by bridging the receiver onto a wireless voice communication channel established between the subscriber's set and a service representative. The service representative can remotely enter subscriber-specific programming information and wireless service authorization data into the subscriber's telephone set for storage therein thereby quickly, reliably and cost-effectively providing authorized service to a new subscriber, or to an existing subscriber who requests a service change. In a wireless data telephone including a modem, downloading may be achieved by bridging the modem onto the voice communication channel to achieve data transfer between the service representative and the modem.

摘要： Disclosed is a system and method for routing a call to a dual mode wireless device (102). In accordance with an embodiment of the invention, a network node (106) receives a call. The network node (106) determines that the call is associated with a dual mode wireless device (102). Once this determination is made, the network node (106) then selects one of a plurality of networks (e.g., cellular network or packet-based network, such as a VoIP network) for use in connecting the call to the dual mode wireless device (102). The network node (106) then routes the call to the dual mode wireless device (102) via the selected network. During the call, the network node (106) re-routes the call to another network if the network node determines that this other network is now better suited for the call.

摘要： An intelligent services director, ISD (22) is coupled to a central office (34) via a twisted-pair connection (30), the ISD (22) and the central office (34) may communicate with each other using DSL modem technology. The central office (34) preferably includes a platform (32) for processing data exchanged across the customer connection (30). The platform may be configured to separate the plain old telephone service, POTS, from the remainder of the data on the customer connection (30). The remaining data may be output to a high speed backbone network whereas the analog POTS data may be output directly to a public switch telephone network, PSTN (46), and/or it may be digitized, routed through the high speed backbone network, and then output fo the PSTN (46).
