An object of the present invention is to provide a form-fill-seal machine that can efficiently seal a packaging material. The form-fill-seal machine is provided with: a conveyance unit for downwardly conveying the packaging material; a transverse sealing unit; and a control unit. The transverse sealing unit has first members (11a, 11b) to sandwich the packaging material and sealing the packaging material in a transverse direction, and second members (55, 75) for squeezing the packaging material while sandwiching the packaging material with a prescribed gap left therebetween. The control unit performs first to third control steps. In the first control step, the control unit causes the packaging material to be squeezed by the second members (55, 75) by causing the transverse sealing unit located at a reference position to descend faster than the packaging material being conveyed downward. In the second control step, the control unit causes the transverse sealing unit to ascend while the packaging material is being sealed by the first members (11a, 11b). In the third control step, the control unit causes the transverse sealing unit to move such that the first members (11a, 11b) are separated from the packaging material, and then returns the transverse sealing unit to the reference position.

The invention relates to a method for providing a tire with an informative label. The method comprises supporting a tire, supplying a banding material to the tire and wrapping it in a loop around a part of the tire, holding the banding material at the neck of said loop, and connecting opposed areas of the banding material at said neck to form a label wrap. The invention further relates to an apparatus for carrying out the method and to a tire provided with the label. The informative label is easily removed by a mechanic and shows an improved processability and printability. The informative label further does not leave any adhesive or other residuals on a tire.

In another form, a drive mechanism is operable to cause relative movement of a pair of platens, for supporting belt ends, toward and away from each other and a heating device between heating and stowed positions. During package formation, the flexible web is cut to form individual packages, with each individual sleeve positioned to form a bottom gusset in a respective package. Cooperating heat-sealing jaws, including cooperating U-shaped sealing surfaces, act to integrate and seal each individual sleeve with the flexible web to form the bottom gusset of each package, with the heat-sealing jaws preferably configured to include cooperating top sealing surfaces for simultaneously forming a top seal in an adjacent one of the packages.
