Immediately ahead of the guiding system, the parameters of the foam extrudate are sensed to control the configuration of the orifice on a continuous basis. Before the extrudate passes into the water baffle seal it moves over a floating dancer roll (65), the position of which controls a haul-off, such as a vacuum belt, at the tail end of the system. This avoids pushing on the extrudate.

Disclosed is a device for processing thermoplastic material that is to be recycled, comprising a first container (1) and a second container (2) receiving the material that is to be processed. Tools (21) which rotate around a vertical axis and are used for mixing and heating the material are disposed in both containers (1, 2). The material is directed from the first container (1) into the second container (2) via a connecting duct (3), the second container (2) being connected to an evacuation device (9). The top of the first container (1) is provided with an inlet port (19) for the material that is to be processed. The orifice of the connecting duct (3), which leads into the second container (2), is located higher than the tools (21) rotating in said container (2). The processed material is discharged from the second container (2) via a discharge port (49) by means of at least one screw (47), whereby said container (2) is closed in a vacuum-tight manner. A lock (6) is connected to the inlet port (19) of the first container (1) which is also connected to an evacuation device (9). At least two tools (21) rotate above each other on different planes in both containers (1, 2), the inlet port (19) of the first container being located higher than the highest tools (21) rotating in said container. The discharge port (49) of the second container (2) is located at least approximately at the same level as the lowest tools (21) rotating in said container (2). At least one temperature probe (32) can be disposed on each plane in each of the two containers (1, 2), on which the rotating tools (21) are located. Said temperature probe (32) is disposed higher than the plane that is assigned thereto. Such a temperature probe (32) is disposed at least on the lowest plane of the rotating tools (21).

In permanent operating conditions, the inner surface of the blank (E) is no longer in contact with the mandrel (12).
