Abstract:
A process for the production of a composition for screening solar radiation which comprises a transparent polymer incorporating an interference pigment comprising a platelet shaped material is disclosed, which process comprises the steps of incorporating the interference pigment into the polymer, and then stretching the resultant polymer in at least one direction to at least twice its original length in that direction. The resultant composition has improved radiation screening properties.

Optical systems including an image surface, a stop surface, a partial reflector disposed between the image surface and the stop surface, a reflective polarizer disposed between the stop surface and the partial reflector, and a quarter wave retarder disposed between the reflective polarizer and the partial reflector are described. The reflective polarizer is convex along two orthogonal axes. The reflective polarizer may be a thermoformed multilayer reflective polarizer.

A method for producing a part by molding with an embedded 2D barcode defined in the surface of the part and the embedded 2D barcode subsequently being readable using a light source and a camera, the method including providing a mold with an array of individual areas of optical anisotropic surface structures, where at least a number of the individual optical anisotropic structures forms a two-dimensional barcode or data matrix; making a replica of the mold, the replica including the array having the property that the directional reflection coefficient of the individual areas of optical anisotropic surface structures is depending on the illumination angle and detection angle in a way that is not rotational symmetric around the axis normal to the surface of the replica, the array being readable by illumination and detection of reflection intensity of the illumination source under a non-normal angle to the surface of the replica.

Opaque multi-layer container with light shielding, of the type produced by blowing a preform or by injection-blowing, preferably intended to contain photosensitive substances, which includes at least two layers of thermoplastic material with opacifying materials dispersed in the layers of the thermoplastic material, said thermoplastic material being polyethylene terephthalate (PET) in all of the layers and including, in at least one of the layers, aluminium metal (Al) and a light absorbent as opacifying material dispersed in the thermoplastic matrix. The invention that is presented provides the main advantage of being able to achieve practically total protection at any wavelength of the light spectrum, with much lower filler levels than those conventionally used to date.
