The present invention relates to a personal care device having a surface intended to engage the skin and/or hair, such as a blade razor or an electric shaver. The surface of such a device is formed from a substrate on which a hard coating layer is provided. A lubricating layer comprising pendant hydrophilic polymer chains is provided on the hard coating. The hard coating has particles incorporated therein, said particles having covalently attached thereto said pendant hydrophilic polymer chains. In addition, the present invention relates to a process of making a skin engaging surface for such personal care devices.

The present invention provides a water-based coating system that can be used to form a durable, abrasion resistant, tough, protective coating on a wide range of substrates. The coating system advantageously has excellent adhesion properties and can be directly coated onto stainless steel surfaces without requiring an intervening primer layer. Primer layers or other types of coatings can be used in combination with the coating system of the present invention if desired, however. The coating system is particularly effective for protecting metal-containing substrates such as intermodal, refrigerated cargo containers. The resultant coatings are flexible and impact resistant. Being water-based, the coating compositions have lower VOC emissions and less residual odor than solvent-based compositions.

Solid extrusion coating compositions for metal substrates, a method of extrusion coating a metal substrate, and a metal article are disclosed. The extrusion coating composition is a thermoplastic material and comprises: (a) a polyester having a weight average molecular weight of about 10,000 to about 50,000, and optionally, (b) a modifying resin, such as an epoxy resin having an epoxy equivalent weight of about 500 to about 15,000. The extrusion coating composition is applied to a metal substrate in an extrusion process to provide a composition film having a thickness of about 1 to about 40 microns.

In the finishes, each of the first color and the one or more accent color is visible in the said finish to provide three-dimensional appearing antique look, swirl look and marbleized patterns. One or more of the coating powders used to form the finish may comprise a texture forming coating powder. Further, weatherable powder coating finishes comprise one or more protective powder coating layer between the substrate and basecoat color layer. In addition, the present invention provides methods for producing patterned powder coating finishes comprising applying to the substrate one or more basecoat coating powder layer having a first color, applying dry-on-dry one or more accent color coating powder layer over the basecoat powder layer, forming patterns in the resulting layers of coating powder, such as with one or more flat bristle brushes, and curing to form powder coating finishes.
