The present invention provides, with reference to the figure, a vehicle suspension system comprising an actuator (10) connected between the body (11) of a vehicle and a wheel and a wheel and hub assembly (18) of the vehicle. A source of pressurized fluid (20) and an exhaust for fluid (24) are provided along with valve means (22) for controlling flow of fluid to the actuator (10) from the source of pressurized fluid (20) and/or from the actuator (10) to the exhaust for fluid (24). Sensor means (27, 28, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 41) is used to generate signals of sensed variable vehicle parameters. A control system for the vehicle suspension system is used which has processor means (25, 20) which processes the signals generated by the sensor means (27, 28, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 41). The processor means (25, 26) outputs a control signal to the valve means (22) and thereby controls the actuator (10). The processor means in normal operating conditions uses a first set of preprogrammed constants (e.g. control loop gains, integrating factors, desired ride heights) in algorithms used by the processor means to calculate the control signal outputted thereby. The processor means uses a different set of preprogrammed constants in the algorithms for a chosen time period following activation of the system and/or at low vehicle speeds and/or a low pressure of fluid supplied by the source of pressurized fluid (20).

In a vehicle suspension system, the fluid pressure type actuators provided between a vehicle body and wheels are so controlled that a ratio of the load to be born by the front wheels to the load to be born by the rear wheels determined based upon the rate of change of lateral acceleration is modified to be increased along with increase of vehicle speed, and in case of the four wheel steering, the roll stiffness in the rear wheels is decreased along with increase of vehicle speed, both for the purpose of improving the stability in steering at high vehicle speed while ensuring the high steerability at low vehicle speed. The roll stiffness in the rear wheels may also be modified to be higher in a transitional state than in a constant state in a turning.

Ces composantes du mouvement sont différemment pondérées. Des deuxièmes mouvements de la carrosserie aux points où les systèmes de suspension des roues s'attachent à la carrosserie sont déduits de ces composantes différement pondérées du mouvement. Des signaux de commande des systèmes de suspension correspondants sont formés par comparaison entre les deuxièmes mouvements de la carrosserie (Vagvl, Vagvr, Vaghl, Vaghr) et les mouvements relatifs correspondants entre les roues et la carrosserie, de sorte que l'on peut influer séparément sur des composantes sélectionnées du mouvement afin de les atténuer.

The invention relates to an anti-roll/pitch system for use in a vehicle, in which a first mass, for instance a cabin, is suspended to a second mass, for instance a chassis, by means of a bearing arm, which is pivotally connected to the second mass around a pivot axis, via spring means. The anti-roll/pitch system comprises means to adjust a point of application of a spring force acting on the bearing arm, so as to adjust a moment exerted by said spring force on said bearing arm to counteract a load exerted on the bearing arm by the first mass. The spring force is exerted on the bearing arm through a flexible, elongated member, such as a string or cable, which takes up little space when adjusting the point of application. The invention furthermore relates to a built-in unit and a vehicle, equipped with an anti-roll/pitch system according to the invention.
