The film structure utilizes a colored layer and a light-diffusing layer that reduces variations in the amount of light transmitted through different areas of a backlit sign. The light- diffusing layer includes light-diffusing particles dispersed in a transparent matrix material, and scatters light transmitted therethrough. The light-diffusing particles have an index of refraction that is different than an index of refraction of the matrix material.
