The invention is directed to highly crystalline, frit sintered glass ceramic compositions having a coefficient of thermal expansion in the range of 85 115 x 10-7 °C. The primary crystal phases of the glass ceramics of the invention possess a cyclosilicate structure. The glass ceramic of the invention are useful as metal to metal, metal to ceramic and ceramic to ceramic sealing agents, and also as high performance coating for metals and ceramics. In their broadest composition the glass ceramic contain, in weight percent, 30-55% SiO2, 5-40% CaO, 0-50% BaO, 0.1-10% Al2O3, and 0 40% SrO, wherein the sum of CaO + BaO + SrO is in the range of 35-65 wt. %. Optionally, the glass ceramic compositions may contain at least one from the group of >0 15 wt. % MgO and >0 10 wt. % ZnO. Also optionally, the glass ceramic compositions may contain >0 10 wt. % of at least one transition metal or rare earth metal oxide.

A conductive layer, as of silver, terminates the screen printed resistor layer and one or two green tapes are applied over the resistor layer to embed the resistors during firing. A final conductive layer is applied after firing.

The present invention provides a method of making a decorated multilayer glass structure using a single firing step that includes that use of a crystallizing glass enamel composition that contains ingredients to ensure the complete burnout of the organic portion of the composition upon firing and bending of a mated pair of glass sheets. A benefit of the composition is that when applied to one sheet of a mated pair of glass sheets, it burns out completely during firing and bending of the pair. The presence of high levels of oxidizers in the composition ensures a supply of oxygen to enable combustion of the organic vehicle while firing the glass sheets and prior to the sintering of the enamel composition to only one glass sheet in a mated pair of decorated or colored glass sheets.

The base layer may contain a typical or normal glaze widely used in sanitary ware, having a low level of zinc oxide. The base layer glaze may be directly sprayed on the clay body surface. A thin top glaze layer is sprayed on top of the base glaze layer and the top layer may contain a high level of zinc oxide.

A hermetically sealed glass package and method for manufacturing the hermetically sealed glass package particularly using an OLED is described herein. In one embodiment, the hermetically sealed glass package is manufactured by providing a first substrate plate and a second substrate plate. The second substrate contains at least one transition or rare earth metal. A sensitive thin-film device that needs protection is deposited onto the first substrate plate. A laser is then used to heat the doped second substrate plate such that a portion of it swells and forms a hermetic seal that connects the first substrate plate to the second substrate plate and also protects the thin film device. The second substrate plate is doped with at least one transition metal such that when the laser interacts with it there is an absorption of light from the laser in the second substrate plate.

The invention relates to a frit production method which is characterised in that it comprises two different fusion phases. According to the invention, the first fusion phase takes place in a tank furnace which is connected to a distribution channel by means of a neck element. The aforementioned distribution channel conveys and distributes the glass to the second fusion channels for the second fusion step. The furnace associated with inventive method consists of the following zones: a tank in which the first fusion step takes place and in which the base glass is melted, said glass having a composition that is defined as the maximum common divider of the group of frits to be produced, thereby eliminating the most corrosive components; a neck element which connects the tank to the distribution channel; a distribution channel; and one or more channels, to which the rest of the necessary raw materials are added in order to obtain each of the frits and in which the second fusion step takes place.
