Tracings (76, 84, 88, 80) are provided on the interface card for interconnecting the cable connectors and the card edge connectors. The tracings are configured such that first tracings carrying data signals from the splitter card to the cable connectors do not cross second tracings carrying voice signals form the splitter card to the cable connectors.

Two lamp sockets (40, 42) on a wiring board (32) behind a switch assembly (18) have identical geometries. Each comprises a through-hole with a polarizing feature. Plural discrete contact pads (44, 46, 48, 50) are disposed on the board surface spaced apart around the margin of each through-hole. Plural discrete conductor traces (52, 54, 56, 58) are printed on the board surface to run from the respective contact pads. Each socket can accept either a first model (66) or a second model (68) of lamp assembly to make either socket a status indicator for the switch assembly or a nighttime illumination socket. A common wiring board can thereby serve different requirements for the locations of status indicator and nighttime illumination lamps.

The width of the tynes is larger than that of prior art devices resulting in increased stiffness and the length of the tynes is sufficiently long to receive two wires therebetween. The contacts (10) are mounted in a housing which includes a plurality of teeth (90) provided with means for retaining lugs (32,34) on the end of the tynes to ensure bowed opening of the tynes on insertion of a wire. The contacts are arranged along the central axis (72) of the housing such that the folded tynes of alternate contacts extend on opposite sides of the central axis.
