A feeding system and method for placing a plurality of objects (P) within a single designated destination area of a sorting system to increase the throughput rate of the system. The disclosed sorting system includes a plurality of carriages (23) movable under the control of a programmable controller (60) between the loading (20) and unloading (30) stations of the sorting system (10), each carriage (23) carrying a tilt tray (25). The geographic destination of each of the objects to be placed on a tray, as well as a dimension of each of the objects to be placed on a tray, is determined by an optical scanner (45) and a measuring device (50). The controller uses the dimension information to determine whether more than one object having the same geographic destination may be placed on the same tray. The invention is adaptable for use with other types of sorting systems.

Vor einer Verzweigung werden die Daten erneut erfaßt, wobei dann jeweils entschieden wird, ob ein nicht auszugebendes Fördergut-Teil (6) auf einen zweiten Teil-Speicher (42) gegeben wird oder ausgegeben wird. Auf dem ersten Teil-Speicher (20) und dem zweiten Teil-Speicher (42) ist ein Umlauf-Betrieb möglich.

A conveyor device (30) capable of moving a load also in a direction perpendicular to a main transporting direction so that the load can be changed and held in any posture, wherein a plurality of conveyor sub units (1) are connected endlessly to each other, the conveyor sub units (1) themselves having a function as a belt conveyor and its belt driving direction being perpendicular to the main transporting direction of the conveyor device, the conveyor device (30) is combined with a control indicator so that a part or all of the conveyor sub units (1) forming the conveyor device (30) can be operated in association with each other, the conveyor sub units (1) comprising a belt, a means for driving the belt, a means for communication with the control indicator and other conveyor sub units, a means for detecting the position of loads on the belt, and a control means for driving the belt in forward and reverse directions using information from each of these means.
