摘要:
The invention provides novel guanylate cyclase-C agonist peptides and their use in the treatment of human diseases including gastrointestinal disorders, inflammation or cancer (e.g., a gastrointestinal cancer). The peptides can be administered either alone or in combination with an inhibitor of cGMP-dependent phosphodiesterase. The gastrointestinal disorder may be classified as either irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, or excessive acidity etc. The gastrointestinal disease may be classified as either inflammatory bowel disease or other GI condition, including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and cancer.

The present invention provides methods of detecting infection using biomarkers. The methods disclosed herein include measuring the expression level of one of more polypeptide determinant in which the alteration of the expression level indicates infection of the patient in a sample of the subject and determining a clinically significant alteration in the level of the one or more polypeptides in the sample, wherein the alteration indicates an infection in the subject. The methods provided herein are for distinguishing between bacterial infection, mixed infection and/or viral infection.

The invention provides micronized encapsulated cell therapy devices that are capable of delivering a biologically active molecule to the eye. Also provided are methods of using the same to deliver biologically active molecules to the eye and to treat ophthalmic disorders in patients suffering there from.
摘要:
An improved device and method for extended repair and regeneration of muscle tissue. An exemplary device comprises (a) a scaffold comprising an ECM component; (b) a combination of growth factors such as VEGF and IGF; and (c) a population of myogenic cells. Implantation of the device leads to muscle regeneration and repair over an extended period of time.

A device for separating a sample of cells suspended in a bio-compatible ferrofluid is described. The device includes a microfluidic channel having a sample inlet, at least one outlet and a length between the same inlet and the at least one outlet, wherein a sample can be added to the sample inlet and flow along the microfluidic channel length to the at least one outlet. The device includes a plurality of electrodes and a power source for applying a current to the plurality of electrodes to create a magnetic field pattern along the microfluidic channel length. The present invention also includes a method of using said device for separating at least one cell type.

The invention relates to methods of producing a desired phenotype in a plant by manipulation of gene expression within the plant. The method relates to means to increase expression level of a bHLH subgroup Ib gene expression or activity, wherein a desired phenotype such as increased heat tolerance relative to a wild type control plant following heat stress results in reduced flower abortion and increased yield. Included are plants produced by said methods. The invention also relates to nucleic acid sequences and constructs useful such methods and methods of generating and isolating plants having increased expression of a bHLH subgroup Ib expression or activity.
