Cosmetic compositions comprising bi-modal water continuous emulsions are disclosed. In particular, the cosmetic compositions comprise a bi-modal water continuous emulsion (E) comprising at least 70 weight percent of: a first dispersed phase containing a hydrophobic oil, wherein the hydrophobic oil is provided as a non-emulsified hydrophobic oil, and a second dispersed phase containing a silicone, wherein the silicone is provided from a water continuous silicone emulsion containing at least one surfactant. The cosmetic compositions further comprise at least one cosmetic ingredient (C). Optionally, the cosmetic ingredient (C) is in a cosmetically acceptable medium. Preparation methods and uses of the cosmetic compositions are also disclosed.

A process for preparing emulsions of silicone gums is disclosed based on using an ethylene oxide/propylene oxide block copolymer as the emulsifier. The emulsions produced by the present process are useful as coatings additives for both water-based and oil-based coatings to obtain improved slip and anti-mar properties. The emulsions may also be used in the manufacture of tires as band ply lubricants. They may also be used in personal care applications.

A method and apparatus for making silicone-in-water emulsions comprising high viscosity silicone polymers is provided. In various aspects, polyorganosiloxanes are polymerized into high viscosity silicone polymers then emulsified in a continuous process, wherein the process is carried out using a single apparatus. In some aspects, the provided apparatus is an extruder for polymerizing polyorganosiloxanes into high viscosity silicone polymers and then emulsifying such polymers.

A storage-stable composition is disclosed which is adapted for imparting water-repellent properties to masonry materials. Said composition comprises an aqueous emulsion which has a continuous aqueous phase and a discontinuous organosilicon phase. The emulsion is formulated from components comprising: (A) a water-insoluble alkoxysilane of the average general formula Rn-Si-R'(4-n) wherein n is a number from 1 to 2, R is a C5 - C20 monovalent hydrocarbon radical and R' is a C1 - C4 alkoxy group; (B) a hydrogen-functional polysiloxane having at least two silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms per molecule, at least five siloxy units per molecule and a kinematic viscosity between 0.5 x 10-6 and 1,000 x 10-6m2/sec. at 25 °C; (C) an emulsifier; and (D) water. The discontinuous organosilicon phase comprises components (A and B) and the continuous aqueous phase is water. Components (A and B) are present in the organosilicon phase in a weight ratio of (A):(B) such that said emulsion is physically and chemically stable after storage for six months at room temperature, or for six weeks at 50 °C.

A method of preparing condensation cross-linked particles in an emulsion includes combining a first linear reactant having two unsaturated carbon-carbon moieties, a second linear reactant having two Si—H moieties, and a third reactant having at least one condensable reactive group and having up to two unsaturated carbon-carbon moieties or Si—H moieties with the proviso that the third reactant has at least one unsaturated carbon-carbon moiety or Si—H moiety. The first, second, and third reactants are combined in the presence of a hydrosilylation catalyst and a polar liquid to form an emulsion wherein the first, second, and third reactants react via a hydrosilylation reaction to form particles that have a linear backbone wherein the condensable reactive group is disposed thereon. The method also includes cross-linking the linear backbone via a condensation reaction to form the condensation cross-linked particles.
