The invention relates to a method having the steps of a) providing isobutyric acid, b) bringing the isobutyric acid into contact with the combination of isobutyrate kinase and phosphotransisobutyrylase and/or isobutyryl-coenzyme A-synthetase/ligase and/or isobutyrate-coenzyme A-transferase, c) bringing the product of step a) into contact with isobutyryl-coenzyme A-dehydrogenase, d) bringing the product of step b) into contact with methacrylyl-coenzyme A-hydratase, and e) hydrolyzing the product of step d) with the formation of 3-hydroxyisobutyric acid. At least one of the enzymes is used in the form of a cell which comprises an activity of 3-hydroxyisobutyric acid dehydrogenase or a variant thereof, said activity being reduced with respect to the wild type of the cell. The invention also relates to a cell which comprises at least one enzyme of the group comprising isobutyryl-coenzyme A-synthetase/ligase, isobutyrate-coenzyme A-transferase, isobutyrate-kinase, phosphotransisobutyrylase, isobutyryl-coenzyme A-dehydrogenase, methacrylyl-coenzyme A-hydratase, and 3-hydroxisobutyryl-coenzyme A-hydrolase and which has an activity of a 3-hydroxyisobutyric acid dehydrogenase or a variant thereof, said activity being reduced with respect to the wild type of the cell. Additionally, the cell preferably has a monooxygenase, even more preferably a monooxygenase of the AlkBGT type or a variant thereof. There is provided a microbial cell for producing at least one acyl amino acid, wherein the cell is genetically modified to comprise: - a first genetic mutation that increases the expression relative to a wild type cell of at least one lipase (EC 3.1.1) (E 1 ) capable of hydrolysing at least one glyceride to at least one fatty acid; and - a second and a third genetic mutation that increases the expression relative to a wild type cell of: (i) an amino acid-N-acyl-transferase (EC 2.3.2) (E 2 ), and (ii) an acyl-CoA synthetase (EC 6.2.1.1) (E 3 ) respectively that enables the cell to convert the fatty acid to at least one acyl amino acid and wherein the cell has a reduced fatty acid degradation capacity.

The invention relates to a method for producing organic compositions comprising the method steps: A) providing an oxyhydrogen bacterium having an activity of an enzyme E 1 , which is increased by comparison with the wild type thereof and which can catalyse the conversion of 2 acetyl-CoA to acetoacetyl-CoA and CoA, in an aqueous medium; B) bringing the aqueous medium into contact with a gas containing H 2 , CO 2 and O 2 in a weight ratio from 20 - 70 to 10 - 45 to 5 - 35 and optionally C) purifying the organic composition.
