In an optical disc, a wobble signal is to be detected by a simple configuration. In the optical disc, the address information, modulated onto a sinusoidal carrier signal by adding even harmonics signals to said sinusoidal carrier signal and by changing the polarity of said harmonics signals, is formed into the wobble signal. In detecting the wobble signal from the optical disc to demodulate the address information, in a method for detecting the wobble signal, an even harmonics signal and data clocks are generated, and the even harmonics signal so generated are multiplied with the reproduced wobble signal. The resulting product signal is integrated every data clock. The sign of the digital information is verified based on the integrated value at an end edge of the data clock.

It is possible to improve the usefulness of a write once type recording medium having a plurality of recording layers. In the write once type recording medium having a plurality of recording layers, there are provided a normal recording/reproduction area, an alternate area, a first alternate management information area, and a second alternate management information area (TDMA), and furthermore, write presence/absence marker information (space pit map) is recorded. For example, the write presence/absence marker information is recorded in the second alternate management information area. The second alternate management information area is an area for realizing rewrite of alternate management information by additionally writing alternate management information associated with alternate processing. Furthermore, according to the write presence/absence marker information, it is possible to judge whether the each data unit (cluster) of each recording layer on the recording medium has been written in or not. The second alternate management information area (TDMA) of each layer is successively used for updating the alternate management information and the write presence/absence marker information.

The track wobbling is performed on a constant unit of an FSK information bit portion based on a waveform obtained by FSK modulation of an information bit and a single frequency portion based on a waveform of a single frequency, so that the constant units are continuous. For the FSK modulation, two types of frequencies are used. One of the frequencies is a frequency identical to the single frequency and the other is different from the single frequency. The relationship of these frequencies is such that for a predetermined period of time, the wave number of these frequencies are even and odd.
