A saw jig in which a guide member (10) is clamped onto a board to be cut. The guide member has a slot (14) for guiding the saw blade for travel in a straight line. The guide member is clamped by means of clamping bolts and nuts onto a board to be cut and the corners of the slot (14) make contact with the surface of the board on order to prevent the board form chipping. The board is cut while lying in a near vertical position so that the cut woood does not place undue strain on the jig and does not separate before the cut has been completed.

The invention relates to a method of wire bonding in which the wire is coated with a polymerisable material which is cured by exposure to radiation after the wire bond has been formed. In this way the wire is insulated so as to enable a higher interconnection density without risk of short circuit. The invention also relates to apperatus for putting the above method into practice. The bonding wire passes through a capillary tube (10') in the base of a reservoir (40) filled with the polymerisable material. In this way the wire is coated but the liquid does not escape from the reservoir (40).

The invention relates to the manufacture of cadmium sulphide solar cells. A cell is formed of a glass substrate (10), a front contact (12) made, for example, of tin oxide, a cadmium sulphide layer (14) and a copper sulphide layer (16). The junction between the layers (14) and (16) is photovoltaic. In order to form a contact on the copper sulphide layer, the invention proposes vapour depositing a mixed layer of copper and copper oxide onto the sulphide layer. The invention also describes a method of heat treatment following the formation of the rear contact in order to optimise the electrical performance of the cell.

The invention relates to the manufacture of a cadmium sulphide photo-voltaic device. A substrate such as a glass is coated with successive layers which are made, in order, of tin oxide, cadmium sulphide, cuprous sulphide and copper to build up a photo-voltaic junction. In order to achieve a fast deposition rate of the cadmium sulphide while achieving a well ordered crystal structure the cadmium sulphide layer is deposited in two stages, the first involving spraying of a weak precursor solution and the second a substantially more concentrated solution to achieve at least a five times increase in the deposition rate. The invention also describes improved techniques for spraying and reducing the effects of the resistivity of the tin oxide first electrode.
