    摘要: A surgical tool and method used to extract an acetabular cup from an acetabulum with minimal or no bone damage even if there has been significant bone ingrowth prior to the extraction process. The tool is designed for use with a reverse hip prosthesis wherein the acetabular cup comprises a stem extending from its concave surface and an acetabular ball is affixed to the stem. The tool is rotated on the ball and a blade is thereby caused to rotate adjacent or in close proximity to a convex surface of the cup in a position between the acetabular bone and the cup, thereby separating the cup from the bone.

    摘要: A glenoid system (100) includes a baseplate (102) configured to attach to a glenoid cavity of a patient. In a primary configuration, a biocompatible plastic liner (332) can snap into a circumferential groove (120) on the baseplate, to attach to a lateral facing surface (104) of the baseplate, at one or more locations around the groove. In a reverse configuration, a glenosphere (544, 644) can attach to an adapter (542, 642), which in turn can attach to the lateral-facing surface of the baseplate. The adapter can introduce lateral and/or angular offsets between the baseplate and the glenosphere, which can correct for unwanted offsets or inclinations. A middle peg extension (752) can screw onto a medial end of the middle peg (114), which can offer different combinations of peg length and peg material. The baseplates can be made available in various discrete sizes, each of which has the same distance between the middle peg and an inferior screw hole (112).

    摘要: Surgical tools which are used to separate from one another a femoral cup and an acetabular ball in an implanted hip replacement prosthesis. At its distal end, elements of the surgical tool engage the femoral cup and the acetabular cup. When proximal handles of the tool are squeezed toward one another, the engagement elements move away from one another. Thus, a surgeon is able to separate the femoral cup and the acetabular ball from one another without pulling the acetabular cup away from the acetabulum or the femoral cup and/or femoral implant away from the femur, thereby accomplishing the separation without disrupting any bone ingrowth.

    摘要: An osteotome suitable for cutting through cancellous bone that is holding an orthopaedic implant requiring revision within a cavity of a bone, includes a cylindrical waveguide connectable to a source of ultrasonic vibrations at its proximal end and a blade having a hollow part-cylindrical cross-section and a cutting edge at its distal tip. The respective longitudinal axes of the waveguide and the blade cross at an angle of about 30°, and the waveguide and blade taper and curve smoothly together where they meet. The osteotome is dimensioned such that a first antinode of the ultrasonic vibrations is located at a proximal end of the waveguide, a second antinode is located at the distal tip of the blade and a node is located where the waveguide and blade meet. The osteotome cuts readily through cancellous bone when ultrasonically energized.
